Clinical Laboratory Technician 2, HMC Phlebotomy & Specimen Processing Services Team

Job Description The UW Medicine - Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology (DLMP) in Seattle, WA is hiring a Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) 2 for the Phlebotomy & Specimen Processing Services (PSPS) Team at Harborview Medical Center. Who we’re looking for As a CLT 2, you will coordinate the workflow of pre‑analytical and technical activities for the department’s send‑out testing, handle problem resolution of specimens, and collaborate with the Clinical Administrative Support Team and Lab Medicine Residents to ensure proper processing, shipping, and billing of undefined send‑out tests. You will also perform CLT 1 duties, including phlebotomy and specimen collection. Work schedule

Tuesday - Saturday 06:00-14:30, including weekends and holidays Day shift What you’ll contribute Prepare packages and ensure send‑out samples are forwarded to the appropriate reference lab for testing. Use resources to provide instruction on the collection and processing of specialized and targeted tests that are not performed in‑house. Maintain awareness of chemicals and agents needed to preserve certain tests and aid staff in preparing collection containers. Maintain stock of special collection materials for referral testing (e.g., Serotonin tubes, trace metal tubes, Somatostatin kits, TRH preservative tubes, Z‑Tubes for Neurotensin, Cambridge GI tubes, Viracor, Osford, Prometheus). Build and maintain working relationships with referral laboratories to facilitate the send‑out process. Organize and maintain files, reports, and results. Monitor lab reports and pending log monitors (PLM) for consistency and troubleshoot issues. Maintain required annual certifications for shipping hazardous materials and dry ice. Train and support new and existing staff on reference laboratory send‑out activities and problem resolution. Respond promptly and professionally to inquiries about test information and results. Resolve problems relayed from the CLT‑1 group and other divisions efficiently and accurately. Provide constructive suggestions for improvement of the send‑out process. Act as a resource for the Lab Information System (LIS) and Clinical Information System (CIS). Demonstrate flexibility, organization, and teamwork to deliver quality service under stress. Promote teamwork between PSPS and other lab divisions, maintaining communication with LMR, specimen processing staff, phlebotomy staff, providers, and CAST. Perform CLT‑1 duties as needed. Perform additional duties as required or assigned by supervisor or manager. What you’ll need High school graduation or equivalent plus two (2) years of chemical, clinical, or public health laboratory experience. Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications, except for legal requirements such as a license, certification, or registration. Additional department requirement Medical Assistant – Phlebotomist (MA‑P) certification issued by the Washington State Department of Health, or obtain MA‑P certification within 180 days of start date. Desired qualifications Associate or bachelor’s degree in science. Experience in a major medical hospital laboratory. Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
