Clinical Nurse (RN) - Medicine (AAU B3) - 0.9 FTE, 12-HR, Day Shift

A Brief Overview The Clinical Nurse (CN) is an RN who provides hands‑on care to patients, practicing in an evidence‑based manner, within the Scope of Practice of the California Nursing Practice Act, regulatory requirements, standards of care, and hospital policies. The CN performs all steps of the nursing process, including assessment, data interpretation, planning, implementation, evaluation, collaboration with the care team, and education of patients and families. The CN respects family centered care, monitors quality of nursing care, and is responsible for professional development, licensure, BLS certification, and continuous learning. What You Will Do Establish therapeutic relationships: create a healing climate, provide emotional support, guide patients and families through illness and recovery. Mobilize patients’ strengths and abilities to participate in recovery and maintain control over the plan of care. Obtain and interpret accurate assessment data; determine nursing diagnosis; monitor and evaluate data based on patient stability. Collaborate with the patient, family and health‑care team to develop individualized plans of care; implement interventions safely; evaluate effectiveness. Teach patients and families needed information for self‑care and illness prevention, adjusting instruction to developmental, physiological and cultural needs. Teach staff members incidentally and/or formally (preceptor, super‑user). Recognize and respond promptly to rapidly changing situations and emergency protocols. Monitor and ensure quality healthcare practices; assist in quality improvement initiatives. Integrate multiple requests and work expectations by setting priorities, delegating tasks, and seeking assistance as needed. Contribute to team building, positive morale, and constructive conflict resolution. Utilize available technology for communication, documentation, and locating clinical information. Contribute to the knowledge and skill of nursing staff through formal or informal teaching, shared governance participation, and professional publications/presentations. Demonstrate lifelong learning, effective communication, leadership, and professional practice evaluation. Education and Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution preferred. Registered Nurse (CRONA union membership indicated; see CRONA website: and commitment to professional development. Eligibility to work in various patient care settings within Stanford Health Care. Experience Requirements Minimum 2 years RN experience in an inpatient setting. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Effective communication in English. Ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams. Proficiency with electronic health records and clinical documentation tools. Knowledge of patient safety and quality standards. Licenses and Certifications Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Current American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (required by some cost centers; see AskHR). California Registered Nurse (CA‑RN) license. Physical Demands and Work Conditions The work involves frequent lifting of patients and equipment, bending, stooping, and walking. It includes moderate risks such as exposure to contagious disease, radiation, infection, and emotionally disturbed patients. Protective clothing or gear may be required. Blood Borne Pathogens Category I tasks involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues in accordance with standard safeguards.
