Director of Finance

Detroit, MI | Hybrid / On-site | Full-time | Reports to Dug Song, Family Principal and CEO

Song United is seeking an experienced Director of Finance to lead finance across our family office, investment portfolio, real estate, and operating entities.

Reporting to Dug Song, you will build the systems, controls, and reporting that give leaders a clear view of performance, capital, and risk. This hands-on role spans accounting, investment and project finance, treasury, and long-term planning, with a path to CFO as Song United scales.

The Problems You Will Help Solve

You will work across investments, properties, and operating companies within Song United, Minor Capital, and their subsidiaries. Your challenge is to create a clear, reliable view of how each activity performs and contributes to the whole, with reporting that leaders can trust.

• Make capital needs visible. Build forecasts that show when investments, development spending, and operations will require cash so leadership can pace commitments, protect reserves, and evaluate new opportunities.
• Clarify investment performance and risk. Turn changing valuations, funding needs, ownership, and cash flows into a dependable view of exposure and performance across the investment portfolio.
• Bring transparency to real estate economics. Connect development budgets, construction costs, property operations, debt, and incentives so leaders can identify cost changes, funding needs, and risks early.
• Build a finance function that can scale. Establish clear processes, controls, ownership, and accountability across internal teams and outside partners. Decide what should stay outsourced, what should move in-house, and build the team as the organization grows.

What You Will Bring

• 8-12+ years of finance and accounting experience in a family office, investment firm, or real estate platform.
• Strong accounting and modeling skills across multi-entity reporting, three-statement modeling, and project accounting. CPA preferred.
• Experience with real estate development, acquisitions, job costing, and private or venture investments.
• Track record of building financial systems, processes, and teams from the ground up.
• Strong judgment, communication, and discretion, with a commitment to Detroit and community-rooted investment.

What Success Looks Like

Success means the principals and vertical leaders can rely on timely, accurate financial information to make decisions. Entity, portfolio, and project reporting is reconciled and consistent. Cash needs and capital commitments are visible in advance, controls work in daily practice, and financial risks are raised early.

You will build a finance function that can grow with Song United while remaining close to its investments, operations, and community commitments.

Location and Working Model

This is a full-time role based in Detroit, Michigan, with a hybrid or on-site working arrangement and close collaboration with the principals and vertical leaders.
