2026-2027 Math Teacher @ Alief Middle School Starting Date: Aug 3, 2026 Job Description Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Qualifications Education/Certification Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for the assigned subject and level Current ESL certification (within 2 years of employment, for teachers hired in the 2010‑2011 school year) Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned Gifted teachers must have 30 hours of approved gifted education training Special Knowledge/Skills Knowledge of subject matter in the assigned position Knowledge of curriculum and instruction Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Experience Completion of student teaching or approved internship Major Responsibilities and Duties Serve a diverse population of students who may be participating in state and federal programs as well as general education Establish and maintain professional relationships and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members Abide by the Alief ISD Code of Civility Maintain an acceptable attendance rate of 94% annually (excluding approved leaves and emergencies) Confer with and foster professional relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators regularly per building and district guidelines Plan and participate in all meetings and provide appropriate documentation for students regarding admissions, reviews, progress, grades, dismissals, conferences, etc. Comply with state and federal laws, district policies, rules, and regulations Instructional Strategies Plan and teach a program of study in accordance with the Texas Education Agency (TEA), district mandates, and curricula. Multiple preparations (courses) may be necessary for many teachers. Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the TEA and district curriculum requirements and provide written evidence of preparation as required; use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect students’ learning styles and needs. Implement instructional, linguistic, and/or modification and accommodation plans per admissions, review, dismissal (ARD) committees; LPAC committees; Section 504 committees; and RtI committees for students receiving services under all district, state, and federal guidelines. Work cooperatively with special education teachers and interventionists to modify curricula as needed for struggling general education students and for special education students according to Individual Education Plans (IEP). Collaborate with other staff members to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods in accordance with district requirements. Diagnose students’ learning needs and seek assistance from building and district leadership for appropriate intervention methods, techniques, and strategies. Student Growth and Development Assess students’ ongoing accomplishments and needs, maintain appropriate records, provide immediate feedback and progress reports regularly per building and district guidelines; administer state assessments as appropriate. Use small group instruction where needed. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned; sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal. Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district. Classroom Management and Organization Create an inviting, risk‑free, supportive, and warm learning environment appropriate to the developmental level and interests of students. Implement an effective discipline and classroom management system aligned with building and district policies and student conduct rules. Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and the student handbook. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials. Compile, maintain, and file all required reports, records, and documents. Professional Growth and Development Participate in professional development activities to improve job‑related skills. Comply with state, district, and federal laws and all applicable campus regulations and policies. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Other Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet current and future needs of Alief. Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities Direct the work of any assigned instructional aide(s). Evaluation Performance in this role is evaluated in accordance with the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T‑TESS) and district policies.
