Accounting Manager

Schedule: Onsite during training (approximately first 4 weeks), then hybrid schedule of 3 days onsite and 2 days remote Employment Type: Interim/Contract Overview Our client, a growing and dynamic organization in the western suburbs of Chicago, is seeking an experienced Interim Accounting Manager to provide leadership and hands-on support to the accounting function during a critical period of growth and transformation. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in public company accounting, consolidations and eliminations, financial reporting, and audit support. This role requires a collaborative, solutions-oriented professional who can quickly assess processes, drive improvements, and partner effectively across the organization. Key Responsibilities Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities, ensuring accuracy and timely financial reporting. Prepare and review complex consolidations and intercompany eliminations across multiple entities. Support internal and external audit activities, including preparation of schedules, documentation, and auditor requests. Assist with financial statement preparation in accordance with U.S. GAAP. Partner with leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis. Review balance sheet reconciliations and ensure accuracy of accounting records. Support acquisition-related accounting activities and integration efforts. Evaluate and strengthen accounting processes, controls, and reporting procedures. Collaborate cross-functionally with finance, operations, and executive leadership teams. Mentor accounting staff and provide guidance on technical accounting matters. Assist with ERP system initiatives and process improvement projects as needed. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA strongly preferred. 7+ years of progressive accounting experience. Prior public company accounting experience required. Strong experience with consolidations and intercompany eliminations. Experience supporting external audits and working directly with auditors. Thorough understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs/XLOOKUPs, and complex financial analysis. Experience in multi-entity organizations and acquisition environments preferred. Ability to work independently, prioritize competing deadlines, and operate in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication and leadership skills with a collaborative approach. Preferred Experience Experience in manufacturing, distribution, or multi-location environments. ERP implementation or upgrade exposure. Experience supporting business integrations following acquisitions. Compensation Competitive hourly rate based on experience.
