RN Radiation Oncology

Job Summary:

The Radiation Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) provides specialized nursing care to patients undergoing radiation therapy for cancer. This role involves assessing patient conditions, delivering nursing interventions related to the disease process and treatment, and supporting patients and families through education, counseling, and resource coordination. The RN collaborates with the Radiation Oncology team and serves as a liaison between various healthcare providers and support services to ensure comprehensive patient care. Responsibilities:

• Assess and monitor patients receiving radiation therapy for actual or potential complications related to cancer and its treatment.
• Provide nursing interventions, education, and counseling to patients and families to help them cope with diagnosis and treatment.
• Assist Radiation Oncologists in patient evaluation and examinations.
• Coordinate patient care across interdisciplinary teams including referrals for rehabilitation, hospice, nursing home care, and nutritional services.
• Serve as liaison between Radiation Oncology and other hospitals, departments, physician groups, and counseling/support organizations.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of oncology nursing practices, protocols, and evidence-based care.
• Document patient care activities and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary team members.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Colorado in good standing.
• Minimum of 2 years of RN experience specifically in Radiation Oncology (not general Oncology).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
• Knowledge of oncology nursing, immunology, pharmacology, and community health principles.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience with interdisciplinary coordination and patient resource referral.
• Familiarity with chronic illness and comorbidity management.
• Organizational skills and flexibility in managing clinic workflow.

Special Considerations:

• Must be able to adapt quickly to the dynamic and fast-paced clinic environment.
• Role requires collaboration with multiple healthcare providers and external agencies.
• Emphasis on patient education, counseling, and supportive care throughout treatment and follow-up.

Scheduling:

• Work schedule consists of four 10-hour weekday shifts per week (4-10's).
• Day shift hours with no weekend or overnight shifts specified.
