Overview As an integral part of an interdisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse (RN) utilizes the nursing process to provide therapeutic care to patients, coordinating patient care and education for patients and families in a compassionate, supportive, and therapeutic environment. Responsibilities Follow policies, procedures, and online manuals to guide patient care. Assessment: Complete Nursing Assessment upon admission, each shift, and with changes in condition; complete patient acuity charts daily. Diagnosis: Interpret assessment information and formulate Nursing Diagnoses. Plan: Develop individualized Plans of Care, document expected outcomes, and review/update daily. Intervention: Administer medications, IV therapy, and other patient care procedures; delegate tasks appropriately; act as patient advocate; manage restraint use per policy. Documentation: Ensure all flow sheets, assistive forms, and electronic charts are complete and correct; perform chart checks and documentation audits. Provide patient/family education, including room/unit orientation and educational flow sheets. Transfer & Discharge: Collaborate with Case Manager and physician for discharge planning and transfer paperwork. Use patient care equipment safely per manufacturer guidelines. Maintain effective communication with all healthcare team members and external agencies. Ensure compliance with regulatory agency requirements (JCAHO standards, HIPAA, OSHA, etc.). Specialty Care Management Operational management of patients with total hip arthroplasty (THA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Management of spinal surgery patients, cystic‑fibrosis care, organ transplant isolation precautions and medication management. Intensive Care Unit (ICU) care: complex critically ill patients across neurosurgery, cardiac, transplant, and advanced therapeutic modalities. Stepdown/Telemetry unit care: high‑acuity patients requiring monitoring, ventilator care, and advanced monitoring devices. Dialysis treatment: initiate, monitor, and document dialysis treatment per policy. Psychiatric patient care: therapeutic interactions, safety assessments, and medication administration under proper consent. Behavioral restraints: de‑escalation, application, monitoring, and documentation procedures. Quality & Professional Development Participate in quality improvement projects and data collection for Nurse Sensitive Quality Indicators. Engage in hospital and unit committees, professional development, and research activities. Earn additional certifications and recognition such as preceptor status and CE credits. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent; grandfathered BSN if hired prior to 12/2019. Graduate from an accredited nursing program. One year of acute inpatient hospital RN experience. Excellent communication skills; proficiency in English (speak, read, write). Knowledge of medical procedures and conditions; ability to perform whole blood collection and apheresis procedures. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Commitment to excellence in patient care and customer service. Preferred Qualifications Specialty certification. Additional certifications, research experience, or award recognition. Licenses & Certifications Registered Nurse – RN (California Board of Registered Nursing). Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – American Heart Association. Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) – completion within 30 days of hire, renewal required.
