Staff Accountant

Direct Hire or Contract-to-Hire | $70,000–$85,000 We are looking for an experienced Senior Staff Accountant to join the finance team at a top Washington, DC-based nonprofit organization. This is an opportunity to join a collaborative team and play an important role in supporting the organization’s day-to-day financial operations. The Senior Staff Accountant will be responsible for a variety of accounting functions, including month-end close, account reconciliations, journal entries, financial reporting, and audit support. We are looking for someone who is detail-oriented, dependable, and comfortable taking ownership of their work. Responsibilities Manage day-to-day general ledger and accounting activities Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations Assist with the monthly and year-end close processes Prepare financial reports and supporting schedules Review accounts and investigate discrepancies Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis Support the annual audit process and provide requested documentation Maintain accurate and organized financial records Assist with maintaining and improving accounting procedures and internal controls Work closely with members of the finance team and other departments on accounting-related matters Participate in special projects and other finance initiatives as needed Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required 3+ years of accounting experience required Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices Experience with general ledger accounting, reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to work independently while also being a collaborative member of the team Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Nonprofit accounting experience is a plus What We Offer This is a great opportunity for an accounting professional who wants to be part of a mission-driven organization while continuing to grow their accounting career.
