Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Med/Surg Duration: 8 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Preferred acute care facility experience License: Registered Nurse licensure in the state of practice Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Must-Have: Must have EPIC experience, Tele experience, and ACLS certification Description: This position involves the responsibility and accountability for a group of patients during a designated shift. The role includes prescribing nursing care based on the nursing process consistent with the medical plan of care. Collaboration with physicians and other healthcare team members is essential to coordinate the delivery of patient care to patients of any age. Incorporating teaching and discharge planning needs into the overall plan of care is vital. Delegation of specific aspects of patient care to other nursing staff is based on their clinical competence and legal scope of practice. Essential functions include utilizing the nursing process to assess patients, design, and implement an individualized plan of care. Evaluating the effectiveness of the plan and modifying it as necessary is crucial. Understanding the age-specific, cultural, and spiritual needs of patients is required. Knowledge of illnesses, injuries, diseases, and developmental stages must be applied in delivering patient care. Knowledge of pharmacology, including medication actions, routes of administration, side effects, and contraindications, should guide medication preparation and administration. Providing patient and family education throughout all phases of care delivery is an important aspect of this role. Assessing patient knowledge and planning appropriate learning activities will help promote compliance. Timely responses to emergency patient situations and internal or external disasters following established protocols are essential. Overseeing the delivery of patient care and ensuring patient safety by challenging or correcting errors is a priority. Documentation of assessments, nursing interventions, and care provided to all assigned patients is required. The ability to set appropriate priorities and respond to changes in workload is crucial. Acting as a patient advocate ensures the preservation of patient rights. Delegation of tasks to certified nursing assistants and student nurses should be based on their clinical competence. Practicing nursing in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act is essential. Maintaining awareness of professional responsibilities and legal scope of practice is required. Applying effective communication skills with patients, families, staff, physicians, and coworkers is important. Performing technical aspects of patient care according to established policies and procedures must be done with attention to detail and patient comfort. Emergency procedures, such as CPR, must be performed and patient responses assessed. Demonstrating the safe use of equipment, including patient care devices, is expected.
