Electrician - Journeyman

Job Title

Under general supervision, performs limited supervisory and skilled technical work in the maintenance and repair of electrical instruments and equipment.

Work involves electrical instruments and control devices, inspecting for and repairing malfunctions, and identifying causes of malfunctions or breakdowns. Employee is also responsible for maintaining records of maintenance work performed, and for determining and recommending alterations to control system specifications to increase efficiency. Reports to the Division Manager or designee as assigned.

Inspects equipment for malfunctions maintenance needs and breakage and performs necessary maintenance and/or repairs; diagnoses problems and causes of equipment failures.

Diagnoses problems and repairs malfunctioning equipment; maintains electrical systems, performing routine maintenance as scheduled and repairs as necessary; maintains units as necessary.

Works on and maintains various electrical systems including CATV, networking, circuit, telephone, 120v-480v systems, lighting replacement, pumps and Energy Management Systems.

Prepares and maintains logs and records of maintenance and repair work performed, submitting and/or filing such documents as requested or otherwise appropriate.

Researches newly developed electrical specifications for various systems, determines feasibility and appropriateness of alterations to existing City systems and makes recommendations to supervisor, as appropriate, makes authorized alterations.

May help assign, direct and supervise activities of operational personnel assisting in electrical repair or related work, ensuring adherence to established policies, procedures and standards.

May be assigned to shift work. May be required to work weekends and holidays. May be required to respond to after our calls.

Performs other related work as required.
