Intercompany Accounting Specialist

Location: Houston, TX | ONSITE

Hourly Rate: $40.00 - $50.00

Contract - to - Hire

Position Summary

The Intercompany Accounting Specialist is responsible for managing and maintaining accurate intercompany accounting records across the company’s entities. This role supports monthly and quarterly close activities, ensures intercompany balances are properly recorded and reconciled, and works closely with accounting, finance, and operational teams to resolve discrepancies and improve processes. The position requires strong attention to detail, an understanding of accounting principles, and the ability to coordinate effectively across multiple entities and systems.

Key Responsibilities

Intercompany Accounting & Reconciliations

·         Prepare and maintain monthly intercompany reconciliations across all applicable entities.

·         Reconcile intercompany receivables, payables, loans, funding, and other balances to ensure both sides of each transaction agree.

·         Research and resolve differences between entities, including timing differences, coding errors, missing entries, and incorrect classifications.

·         Prepare and record intercompany journal entries, reclassifications, and eliminations as needed.

·         Ensure intercompany transactions are recorded in the appropriate periods and accounts.

·         Monitor outstanding intercompany balances and coordinate with entity accounting teams to resolve aged or unusual items.

Month-End & Quarter-End Close

·         Support monthly and quarterly close activities by preparing intercompany schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.

·         Meet established close deadlines and provide accurate information for consolidation and financial reporting.

·         Coordinate with accounting teams to ensure intercompany entries are completed before consolidation.

·         Assist with the review of intercompany balances and elimination entries within the consolidation process.

·         Prepare explanations for significant fluctuations and variances in intercompany activity.

Process & System Support

·         Maintain intercompany accounting procedures, schedules, and documentation. This includes preparation and obtaining sign-off off.

·         Identify opportunities to improve intercompany processes, reduce manual work, and strengthen controls.

·         Support the implementation and maintenance of intercompany processes within ERP and consolidation systems.

·         Assist with account mapping, entity setup, and transaction coding to ensure consistent intercompany reporting.

·         Work with cross-functional teams to improve the accuracy and timeliness of intercompany transactions.

Reporting & Controls

·         Maintain accurate and organized supporting documentation for reconciliations and journal entries.

·         Assist with internal and external audit requests related to intercompany activity.

·         Ensure intercompany transactions comply with company accounting policies and applicable accounting standards.

·         Support the identification and resolution of control issues and recurring reconciliation differences.

·         Prepare periodic reporting and analysis of intercompany balances and activity.

Required Qualifications

·         Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

·         3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably with intercompany accounting or multi-entity accounting experience.

·         Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, journal entries, and account reconciliations.

·         Experience with month-end and quarter-end close processes.

·         Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, lookups, and reconciliation techniques.

·         Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

·         Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict reporting deadlines.

·         Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

·         Experience working in a multi-entity or acquisition-focused environment.

·         Experience with ERP and consolidation systems such as Acumatica, Jamis, OneStream, or similar platforms.

·         Experience with intercompany eliminations and consolidation reporting.

·         Experience supporting process improvements, system implementations, or accounting integrations.

·         CPA or progress toward CPA certification a plus.
