Staff Accountant — Temporary Assignment
Position Overview
Our client is seeking a Staff Accountant for an immediate temporary assignment to provide additional support to a small finance team. This role will provide hands-on support across client billing, accounts receivable, collections, general accounting, financial reporting, and reconciliations.
The ideal candidate is an efficient, proactive accounting professional who can quickly step into an existing workflow, take ownership of responsibilities, and work independently. This position requires strong attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple deadlines, and comfort communicating with both accounting and operational teams. The successful candidate will also look for opportunities to improve processes and create efficiencies.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage accurate and timely client billing and invoicing processes.
- Support a significant portion of the monthly billing function, including time-based billing, invoice preparation, and billing review.
- Lead and support collection efforts for outstanding accounts receivable balances.
- Partner with project and operational teams to complete monthly billing reviews.
- Communicate with employees to ensure timesheets are completed and finalized accurately.
- Perform accounts receivable activities, including collection follow-up and payment tracking.
- Process electronic and other customer payments and complete related reconciliations.
- Perform general ledger accounting functions and assist with month-end close activities.
- Reconcile financial data, investigate discrepancies, and assist with resolution.
- Download, analyze, and reconcile data from multiple financial and operational systems.
- Maintain and analyze transactional and resource-management data to support billing and financial reporting.
- Assist with project-level financial reporting and contract-related accounting activities.
- Integrate data from operational systems into QuickBooks Online reporting workflows.
- Prepare financial reports, account mappings, and ad hoc analyses as needed.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve accounting processes and operational efficiency.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably within professional services, consulting, project-based, or time-and-materials billing environments.
- Strong experience with billing, invoicing, accounts receivable, and collections.
- Solid understanding of general ledger accounting and financial reporting.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP principles.
- Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and data analysis.
- Experience with QuickBooks Online required.
- Experience with ERP, accounting, project management, or resource management systems preferred.
- Experience using AI tools to improve accounting processes is a plus.
