Disability Adviser

Stanford University has an immediate opening for a full-time Disability Adviser in the Office of Accessible Education, the department charged with facilitating reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities in all areas of academic and residential life. This position is integral in furthering accessibility and inclusion for students with disabilities on campus and working closely with campus partners to remove barriers to learning. The Office of Accessible Education is a department within the division of Student Affairs which centers its work on case-by-case accommodation determinations and programmatic development for furthering accessibility and inclusion across the division. OAE disability advisers serve as subject matter experts and work closely with all other campus departments, providing consultation and inclusion programming as needed. We seek candidates who can support the vision of our office, work to help establish a new outlook, mission and values, and support Our Most Important Work. Note: This is a 13-month fixed term appointment In this role, you will: Work directly with students with a diverse range of disabilities to determine appropriate and reasonable academic and housing accommodations on a case‑by‑case basis. Collaborate with staff and faculty throughout the University to guide the interactive process and assist in the implementation of reasonable accommodations. Understand, interpret, and apply University policies and procedures. Advise students on issues such as disclosure, disability management, reasonability, rights and responsibilities. Collaborate and work closely with various university partners/stakeholders such as Residential and Dining Enterprises, VPUE, academic departments, professional schools, Institutional Equity and Access, and others within VPSA. Facilitate trainings, or workshops and represent the department at campus outreach events for the broad learning and engagement of student, staff, and faculty. Confer on complex cases with manager and colleagues. Direct students to grievances processes. Maintain records of activities with students, including communications, documentation, and meeting notes. Implement policies and procedures to support the facilitation of reasonable accommodations in the academic and housing settings. Other duties as assigned by manager. Qualifications: To be successful in this role, you will bring: A bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience. Ability to ensure and apply compliance with federal disability law including the ADA and Section 504, as well as relevant university policies Excellent organizational skills including effective time management, and flexibility to adapt to competing priorities Advanced customer service skills, demonstrated in the ability to work with students, parents, faculty, and other campus stakeholders in high pressure and complex situations Ability to develop strong relationships with students and other constituents in a professional manner Ability to think critically, exercise independent judgement when appropriate, while taking direction from department leadership Thoughtful reasoning, resourcefulness, initiative, discernment, collaborative team player, and a high degree of motivation is required Understanding of student development theories and training Knowledge and embodiment of diversity and inclusion best practices. Ability to work collaboratively with individuals and groups from various identities, cultures, and backgrounds Willingness to take on new challenges in a dynamic and changing environment and work gracefully under pressure Strong communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, client groups, and management Advanced analysis and problem-solving skills Advanced computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Box, and Google Drive; Relevant computer systems/technology experience including data management systems In addition, preferred requirements include: Master’s degree in special education, Higher Education Administration/Student Affairs, Disability Studies, Social Work, Vocational Rehabilitation, or other related field. Experience in student affairs. Experience working with students with disabilities in a higher education setting Working Conditions: Able to work evenings and weekends, as needed. This job is a hybrid position that has an onsite presence of 3-4 days per week minimum. The expected pay range for this position is $94,998 - $100,000 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of the salary or hourly wage the university reasonably expects to pay for a position upon hire. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
