Accountant, Overheads Job Locations US-NY-White Plains | US-CO-Louisville Short Intro and About the Job The Accountant is responsible for ensuring accurate accounting of overhead expenses, payroll-related transactions, and other income and expense accounts. This role plays a critical part in the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes. The Accountant partners closely with HR, Payroll, FP&A, and operational stakeholders to maintain accurate financial records and support informed business decision-making. This role can be based out of White Plains, NY or Louisville, CO! Key Responsibilities Manage the accounting and reporting of corporate and departmental overhead expenses. Review, analyze, and reconcile general ledger accounts related to operating expenses. Prepare and record monthly journal entries and accruals for overhead costs. Ensure proper expense classification and compliance with accounting policies. Review and reconcile payroll-related transactions, including wages, bonuses, commissions, taxes, and benefit costs. Review payroll reports and validate accuracy of payroll accounting entries. Reconcile payroll clearing and liability accounts monthly. Collaborate with Human Resources and Payroll teams to resolve discrepancies. Support internal and external audits by providing payroll-related documentation and analyses. Ensure compliance with company policies, tax regulations, and internal controls. Manage accounting for miscellaneous income and non-operating expenses. Prepare supporting schedules for other income and expense accounts. Analyze unusual transactions and ensure proper accounting treatment. Assist in identifying opportunities for process improvements and greater reporting efficiency. Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations. Ensure timely and accurate completion of month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities. Ensure compliance with corporate accounting policies, and internal controls. Support preparation of internal financial reporting packages. Develop schedules and analyses requested by management. Provide recommendations based on financial trends and operational insights. Support external reporting requirements and audit requests. Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, systems, and controls. Assist in the implementation of new accounting procedures and automation initiatives. Ensure adherence to internal control requirements where applicable. Participate in special projects and cross-functional initiatives. The salary range for this position is $70k-80k USD. The exact salary offered will depend on several factors, including the candidate's relevant experience, geographic location, internal equity, and market conditions. CPA designation or progress toward CPA certification preferred. Experience 5+ years of progressive accounting experience. Experience with general ledger accounting, payroll accounting, and financial reporting. Experience in a large corporate or multinational environment preferred. Experience supporting month-end close and audit processes. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong knowledge of US GAAP and accounting principles. Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Proficiency with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar). Advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and collaborate across functions.
