Director Labor Relations

The Director of Labor Relations is responsible for and oversees all labor relations activity for Corewell Health, developing, implementing, and leading a comprehensive labor strategy. Responsibilities Develop, implement, and lead Corewell Health’s labor strategy in partnership with senior leadership. Lead positive team member relations strategy, including risk assessment, issue identification and resolution. Serve as primary contact for all union‑related matters: collective bargaining, organizing campaigns, petitions, mediation, arbitration, and administrative charges. Partner with legal counsel on union matters and represent Corewell Health in mediation, arbitration, hearings, and trials. Develop and lead response to organizing campaigns and election petitions. Provide training to HR and leadership on labor‑related subjects. Negotiate collective bargaining agreements and provide guidance on business consolidations, outsourcing, and reductions in force involving union workforce. Oversee the grievance process and prepare cases for arbitrations, administrative hearings, and trials. Ensure compliance with federal and state employment and labor laws. Research and forecast environmental and legislative trends and develop organizational responses. Maintain partnerships for effective administration of labor relations. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university. Master’s Degree in Industrial Relations, Labor Relations, or a related discipline (required); Doctorate Juris Doctor preferred. Minimum 10 years of increasingly responsible experience in Employee and Labor Relations, working extensively with labor unions; at least 2 years in a project management, supervisory, or managerial capacity. Experience with union organizing campaigns. Extensive experience negotiating Collective Bargaining Agreements. Extensive experience conducting employee investigations. Extensive experience resolving grievances and the arbitration process. Labor Relations experience within a healthcare setting strongly preferred.
