Senior Scientist, HIV Discovery Virology

Gilead Sciences seeks a Senior Scientist to lead preclinical virology studies supporting HIV therapeutic discovery and development. The role involves designing and executing cell-based assays, managing multidisciplinary teams, and advancing novel long-acting agents through the research pipeline.
Responsibilities
- Independently develop scientific hypotheses and design cell-based virology assays
- Lead and execute preclinical studies characterizing investigational HIV therapeutic agents
- Serve as core multidisciplinary team member supporting HIV research portfolio activities
- Lead external collaborations with CROs and academic partners complementing research goals
- Support regulatory documents, manuscripts, patent filings, and scientific presentations
Requirements
- Bachelor's in virology, infectious disease, immunology, or related life science with 8+ years experience
- Master's degree in relevant discipline with 6+ years experience
- PhD in relevant field with 2+ years post-doctoral industry experience
- Strong publication record and demonstrated preclinical candidate advancement
- Expertise in assay development, data interpretation, and quality evaluation
- Hands-on experience with cell isolation, flow cytometry, ELISA, molecular biology, and automation
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Compensation: $169,320–$219,120 base
