Registered Nurse Correctional

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in this correctional facility role is responsible for delivering skilled nursing care with a focus on medical/surgical patients in a secure environment. The nurse will perform patient assessments, medication administration, treatment planning, and collaborate closely with the healthcare team. This role requires at least two years of recent acute care experience in medical/surgical nursing and correctional experience. Strong communication, adaptability, and the ability to float across units as needed are essential. Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care to patients within the correctional facility.
• Conduct thorough patient assessments and administer medications as prescribed.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
• Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
• Float to other units or facilities within the scope of practice to meet operational needs.
• Maintain accurate documentation using Cerner electronic charting system.
• Adhere to facility policies and security protocols specific to correctional healthcare.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license valid for the state of practice.
• Minimum of 2 years recent acute care experience in Medical/Surgical nursing.
• Correctional nursing experience required.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Ability to work within a 75-mile radius of the facility.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience with electronic medical record systems, specifically Cerner.
• Prior experience floating within healthcare facilities.

Special Considerations:

• Shift: 3 twelve-hour night shifts (7:00 pm 7:30 am).
• No block scheduling accommodations.
• Every other weekend required (2 weekends per month).
• Return to work (RTO) policy: maximum 5 days per month, no more than 2 consecutive days, no RTO on holidays, weekends, or adjacent to holidays.
• Mandatory floating to other units/facilities as needed.
• Scrub color: Navy Blue.
• Free first-come, first-serve parking available.

Scheduling:

• Work schedule consists of three 12-hour night shifts per week (7:00 pm to 7:30 am).
• Weekend work every other weekend, totaling approximately 2 weekends per month.
• No holiday shifts or holiday-related time off (RTO) allowed.
