Section Chief, Specialty Care

Niazee College of Osteopathic Medicine (NCOM) is a mission-driven, nonprofit osteopathic medical school advancing a community-centered, whole-person approach to healthcare education. The Section Chief of Specialty Care provides academic leadership for the integration, delivery, and continuous improvement of specialty care education across all four years of the osteopathic medical curriculum. This role collaborates with specialty faculty to ensure high-quality instruction, curriculum alignment, and student readiness in disciplines such as medical subspecialties, neurology, psychiatry, emergency medicine, physical medicine and rehabilitation, and diagnostic radiology. You’ll be part of a founding team shaping the future of osteopathic medical education, where your voice, expertise, and leadership directly influence institutional growth and student success. To succeed as the Section Chief of Specialty Care, you should have: Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) or Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree with active board certification in a relevant specialty care discipline and eligibility for Illinois medical licensure; demonstrated commitment to osteopathic medical education and whole-person patient care. Minimum five (5) years of independent post-training clinical practice experience in a specialty care field, along with at least three (3) years of academic teaching experience and leadership experience in medical education. Proven success in curriculum design, learner assessment, faculty development, accreditation support, educational outcomes analysis, and continuous quality improvement within undergraduate medical education. Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, coordinate specialty faculty and preceptors, manage complex educational initiatives, and build collaborative relationships across academic and clinical environments. Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and leadership skills, with a commitment to evidence-based, patient-centered care, educational excellence, scholarly activity, and preparation of students for clinical practice and residency training. Your responsibilities as the Section Chief of Specialty Care will include: Lead the development, integration, assessment, and continuous improvement of the Specialty Care curriculum across all four years of the osteopathic medical program, ensuring alignment with institutional goals, accreditation standards, and student readiness for clinical training. Coordinate and support specialty faculty, adjunct instructors, preceptors, and discipline leaders across a broad portfolio of medical specialties, fostering high-quality instruction, curriculum consistency, and effective faculty development. Collaborate with primary care, procedural care, clinical education, simulation, assessment, and foundational science teams to ensure integrated learning experiences, clinical skills development, and preparation for COMLEX-USA examinations and residency training. Monitor curriculum effectiveness through analysis of course, clerkship, faculty, assessment, and program outcome data, identifying opportunities for continuous quality improvement and implementing evidence-based enhancements. Advise students on specialty career pathways and residency preparation while promoting osteopathic principles, interprofessional education, scholarly activity, accreditation readiness, and strategic initiatives that support academic excellence.
