Release of Information Analyst I

Job Summary Health Information Management (HIM) Release of Information (ROI) Analyst manages incoming release of information requests within the Geisinger System, ensuring accuracy, organization, and confidentiality of patient records. The position provides reasonable assurance that patient care and satisfaction remain a priority while collecting, entering, and processing requests from hospitals, physician offices, and clinics, consistently meeting medical, administrative, ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities Gain fundamental understanding of day-to-day operations and how they impact the ROI functions. Understand medical records and affiliated components. Access, move, forward, and enter requests from email and fax folders into the electronic health record (EHR). Open, sort, distribute, and perform data entry of EHR ROI incoming mail requests. Validate release of information forms for completeness and accuracy. Identify invalid requests and process requests for return to the requestor for remediation. Extract patient portal requests from work queues into the EHR system and complete data entry. Manage phone calls and respond to status checks, requests for records, and basic questions about medical record releases. Process basic non‑billable requests. Use appropriate distribution methods for records and process these records using different technology methods and platforms. Develop a solid knowledge of ROI processes required for on‑call coverage/weekday coverage for various medical record scopes. Maintain patient confidentiality throughout day‑to‑day tasks. Become familiar with policies related to the ROI team. Utilize multiple computer systems. Perform additional tasks as assigned. Qualifications Relevant experience may be a combination of related work experience and degree obtained (associate’s degree = 2 years; bachelor’s degree = 4 years). Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) – Required.
