About the Position

We are seeking a Locums Cardiothoracic Surgery Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide surgical and inpatient coverage for a busy cardiothoracic surgery program in Steubenville, Ohio. This role is ideal for an experienced surgical APP with a background in cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgery.

Position Highlights

• Inpatient, operating room, and clinic responsibilities

• Weekday schedule:
  • 7:00 AM–4:00 PM (hourly)

  • 4:00 PM–7:00 AM (night call)

• Weekend coverage:
  • 24-hour call (7:00 AM–7:00 AM)

• Call responsibilities include nights and weekends

• EMR: Meditech and eClinicalWorks (eCW)

Responsibilities

• Round on hospitalized cardiothoracic surgery patients.

• First assist in elective and emergent cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgical procedures.

• Evaluate and manage preoperative and postoperative patients.

• Assist with outpatient clinic responsibilities.

• Participate in night and weekend call coverage.

• Collaborate with surgeons, nursing staff, and the multidisciplinary care team.

• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.

Required Experience & Procedures

• Minimum 1 year of surgical experience required

• Experience assisting with:
  • Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG)

  • Cardiac surgery

  • Thoracic surgery

  • Vascular surgery

Qualifications

• Physician Assistant: NCCPA Board Certified (PA-C)

• OR Nurse Practitioner: Nationally Board Certified with RNFA/first assist experience strongly preferred

• Active Ohio license required

• Current ACLS certification

• DEA registration required
