Work Schedule: Varies according to need Job Location: Raleigh, NC Overview The Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at North Carolina State University offers a high‑quality undergraduate Philosophy curriculum, including a major and minor in Philosophy, and a high‑quality undergraduate Religious Studies curriculum. The department invites applications for short‑term teaching positions during the 2026‑27 academic year. Essential Job Duties Teach one or more Philosophy courses for either a single semester or the full academic year as departmental needs require (courses may include Introduction to Philosophy, Contemporary Moral Issues, Issues in Business Ethics, Data Ethics, Biomedical Ethics, Logic, Metaphysics, Epistemology, Philosophy of Science, and other PHI courses listed in the NC State course catalog). Assignments may be in‑person or online distance education; local residency is required for all appointments. Other Responsibilities Other tasks and responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs of the organization and evolving priorities. Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience Lecturer: Master’s Degree in Philosophy or related field, or an equivalent degree or professional experience; Doctor’s Degree required if teaching graduate‑level courses. Assistant Teaching Professor: Doctor’s Degree in Philosophy or related field, or an equivalent degree or professional experience; ability to direct activities and participate in departmental activities. Rank is dependent upon qualifications.
