Job Title: Hedge Accounting / Mortgage Finance Accountant

Location: San Francisco, CA (Hybrid – Onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday)
Pay Rate: $80–$85/hour
Employment Type: Contract

About the Role
Our client, a financial institution in San Francisco, is seeking an experienced Accountant to support hedge accounting and mortgage finance accounting functions. This role will work closely with the accounting team on MPF loan accounting, hedge effectiveness testing, and general ledger reconciliation activities.

Responsibilities

• Perform accounting support activities related to designated hedge accounting processes, including preparation of supporting schedules, account reconciliations, journal entry support, and documentation of accounting workflows, as assigned during periods of resource coverage
• Validate MPF loan commitments, funding activity, principal and interest remittances, credit enhancement fees, and related accounting transactions by comparing source system reports to accounting records and investigating identified discrepancies
• Prepare and post journal entries for income, expenses, premium and discount amortization/accretion, fair value adjustments, hedge accounting, nonperforming loans, loan loss reserves, charge-offs, and REO accounting
• Execute monthly FAS 91/FAS 149 processing and support accounting for loans, MBS, and investment portfolios
• Perform account reconciliations, period-over-period variance analyses, and investigation of accounting and reporting discrepancies, including documenting explanations for material fluctuations
• Reconcile and certify general ledger accounts in Workday Financials and ensure the completeness and accuracy of accounting records
• Execute assigned accounting procedures in accordance with documented internal controls and maintain supporting documentation required for management review and audit testing
• Perform hedge inception testing on all new trades, ensuring trades meet the requirements of Bank policies and ASC 815; perform weekly hedge effectiveness testing and document any failures in accordance with Bank policies and procedures

Required Qualifications

• 3–5 years of relevant accounting experience
• Strong background in account reconciliations and variance analysis
• Experience with Workday Financials or similar ERP/accounting software
• Background in Banking, Mortgage Finance, or Capital Markets Accounting strongly preferred
