Veterinary Technician Lead – Large Animal Field Service Location: Glassboro, New Jersey Position Summary The Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine (SSVM) seeks a skilled and motivated Technician Lead to support the Large Animal Field Service team. The role combines advanced technical responsibilities with frontline leadership, operational support, and service representation within a dynamic ambulatory clinical service. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Clinical & Technical Support Provide advanced veterinary technical assistance for large animal ambulatory services, including patient restraint, diagnostics, treatments, anesthesia assistance, and procedures; prepare and maintain field vehicles, equipment, and supplies; assist clinicians with medical record documentation and discharge processes; maintain high standards of patient care, safety, and professionalism in field settings. Leadership & Team Oversight Provide day-to-day oversight and coordination of support staff; support workflow organization, task delegation, and operational consistency; assist with onboarding, training, and mentorship of technicians and support personnel; promote a positive, collaborative, and accountable team environment. Administrative & Operational Support Support administrative functions including scheduling coordination, documentation, and service communication; assist with budget-related activities and expense tracking; support procurement processes, ordering, inventory monitoring, and vendor coordination; help identify workflow challenges and contribute to operational improvements. Service Representation & Communication Serve as the point of contact for the Large Animal Field Service at Lead Technician meetings with the Technician Manager; communicate service needs, operational updates, and resource considerations; support alignment between clinical, operational, and administrative priorities. Other Duties Perform additional responsibilities or special projects as assigned; support departmental and hospital initiatives as needed. Required Qualifications Associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology or equivalent. Credentialed Veterinary Technician (CVT/LVT/RVT) preferred or eligibility for licensure in New Jersey. Minimum of 3–5 years of veterinary technical experience, with large animal experience strongly preferred. Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, or supervisory experience preferred. Experience supporting administrative, inventory, or procurement processes is a plus. Strong organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills. Ability to work in ambulatory/field environments and handle physical demands of large animal practice. Valid driver’s license and ability to operate service vehicles. Salary & Benefits Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Rates vary by level and experience: Lead Veterinary Technician (Credentialed) Level 1 – Probationary: $34.25/hour; Job: $37.40/hour; Max: $40.05/hour. Level 2 – Probationary: $30.05/hour; Job: $33.00/hour; Max: $35.20/hour. Lead Veterinary Assistant (Non‑Credentialed) Level 1 – Probationary: $25.08/hour; Job: $28.55/hour; Max: $31.97/hour. Reporting Structure Reports to the Technician Manager and works closely with the Large Animal Field Service clinicians and Clinical Sciences leadership. Requires flexibility, teamwork, and engagement in a fast‑paced clinical‑academic setting. Working Conditions Hazards include potential slips, trips, falls, exposure to odors, noise, animal feces/urine, bites, kicks, scratches, bloodborne pathogens, hazardous drugs, radiation, chemicals, and latex. Animals treated range from small mammals to large mammals, livestock, reptiles, avians, and other exotics.
