What we want The Maternal Health Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) delivers evidence-based, comprehensive perinatal care to women in rural Texas through innovative telehealth and community-integrated services. This position is primarily based on campus at the Texas A&M–Fort Worth location and supports rural clinical partnerships across the state. The role provides longitudinal, wraparound care from preconception through one year postpartum, ensuring continuity, safety, and improved maternal outcomes. Responsibilities include direct clinical care, proactive care coordination, patient-centered education, and collaboration with rural healthcare teams and community partners to address medical, behavioral health, and social drivers of maternal health. This is a wage position established to accommodate a temporary organizational need. As such, TAMU does not guarantee any set number of hours or length of employment in this role. What you need to know Salary: Will becommensuratebased on the selected hire’s education and experience. Location/Schedule: Fort Worth, TX/Part-Time; This position is primarily in-office and based on campus, with regular on-site presence required to support clinical operations and program activities. This position may require up to 20% travel to partner rural clinical sites, stakeholder meetings, or outreach events. This position may require occasional schedule flexibility, including adjusted hours to support patient needs, community outreach, or program initiatives; however, total weekly hours will not exceed 40 hours without prior leadership approval Please note: This position is grant funded; future employment may be contingent upon future funding. Responsibilities Clinical Care & Telehealth Services Delivers comprehensive, evidence-based perinatal care to patients across multiple rural clinical sites in Texas through secure telehealth platforms and in collaboration with partner clinics. Integrates seamlessly into multiple rural practice settings and electronic medical record (EMR) systems, maintaining accurate, timely documentation in accordance with each site’s clinical and regulatory requirements. Utilizes electronic health records, remote monitoring tools, and secure communication platforms to ensure high-quality, accessible maternal health services. Conducts virtual preconception, prenatal, antenatal, and postpartum consultations through one year postpartum, including routine assessments, risk stratification, follow-up, and chronic disease management. Assesses, diagnoses, and manages low- to moderate-risk obstetric conditions within APRN scope of practice and collaborates with consulting physicians and specialists for high-risk cases. Orders, interprets, and manages laboratory tests, imaging, and diagnostic studies as clinically indicated. Prescribes medications and therapeutic interventions in accordance with Texas APRN regulations and collaborative practice agreements. Ensures accurate documentation, coding, and billing practices across multiple clinical systems consistent with payer requirements and telehealth regulations. Maintains compliance with HIPAA, telehealth laws, organizational policies, and site-specific protocols. Identifies workflow or technical barriers impacting care delivery and collaborates with site leadership and IT support to resolve issues efficiently. Care Coordination, Outreach & Program Growth Provides proactive care coordination across multiple rural healthcare systems to ensure continuity of care from preconception through one year postpartum. Screens for and addresses medical, behavioral health, and social drivers of health impacting maternal outcomes, facilitating appropriate referrals and follow-up. Coordinates transitions of care between telehealth services, local clinics, delivering hospitals, and specialty providers to reduce fragmentation and improve maternal safety. Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with rural clinic staff, hospital leadership, and community partners to strengthen integration of maternal health services. Participates in outreach efforts to rural clinics, hospitals, and community stakeholders to increase awareness, engagement, and utilization of maternal health services. Assists with onboarding and workflow integration of new partner sites, including alignment of clinical protocols and documentation processes. Supports expansion of maternal health services through participation in meetings, presentations, and stakeholder engagement activities as assigned. Provides clinical expertise to support additional maternal health initiatives as program priorities evolve. Quality, Compliance & Program Sustainability Ensures accurate and timely documentation, coding, and billing practices across all partner sites in accordance with payer requirements, telehealth regulations, and organizational policies. Maintains compliance with Texas APRN scope of practice regulations, collaborative practice agreements, DEA requirements, and professional liability standards. Participates in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing maternal safety, clinical outcomes, and access to care in rural communities. Supports collection and reporting of clinical and operational data, including maternal outcome measures, access metrics, and performance indicators required for program evaluation and grant reporting. Identifies opportunities to improve workflow efficiency, patient experience, and service delivery across rural sites. Participates in regular case review, peer collaboration, and interdisciplinary meetings to ensure adherence to evidence-based practice standards. Maintains required licensure, certifications, and continuing education to remain current in maternal health best practices and telehealth delivery. Required Education and Experience Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree. Four years of related clinical experience in obstetrics as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, including experience in managing and collaborating on high-risk pregnancies in Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM), telehealth practices, and electronic fetal monitoring. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Required Licenses and Certifications Active and unrestricted APRN license in the State of Texas. Board Certification as a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM), Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner (WHNP-BC™), or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-BC™). Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certification Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification Licensure/certification must be maintained for continued employment. Preferred Qualifications Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification (NCC or AWHONN). Experience practicing in rural, underserved, or telehealth settings. Experience integrating across multiple clinical sites and electronic medical record (EMR) systems. Experience in perinatal quality improvement initiatives (e.g., maternal safety bundles, TexasAIM, QI collaboratives). Bilingual (English and Spanish). Experience with remote patient monitoring technologies Experience with medical billing, coding, and documentation optimization. Experience in ultrasonography. Experience in prenatal, childbirth, and lactation education. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of evidence-based perinatal care practices across the continuum from preconception through one year postpartum. Knowledge of telehealth delivery models and platforms, RPM tools, regulatory requirements, and best practices for virtual maternal healthcare. Knowledge of rural healthcare systems, referral networks, and resource-limited practice environments. Knowledge of medical billing, coding standards, EMR systems, and documentation requirements for telehealth services. Knowledge of quality improvement principles and maternal safety standards. Proficiency in virtual meeting platforms (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams) and Microsoft Office Suite. Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills in virtual care environments. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to educate patients and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams. Ability to adapt to varying rural clinic workflows and operational structures. Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information in compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies. Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with rural healthcare teams and community partners. All positions are security-sensitive.
