Toll Brothers, America's Luxury Home Builder, has an immediate opportunity for a top-notch Regional Controller to join our team in our corporate office in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania.

What is the opportunity?

The VP-Regional Controller is the senior accounting leader responsible for the overall health, integrity, and effectiveness of accounting across an assigned geographic region. Reporting directly to the Homebuilding Controller and leading the region's Division Controllers, this role is accountable for regional financial integrity, accounting and control quality, talent and organizational capability, business insight, and execution of Homebuilding Accounting priorities.

Serving as a trusted advisor and extension of the Homebuilding Controller, the VP-Regional Controller combines deep technical accounting expertise and attention to detail with business acumen, thought leadership, and people leadership. The role proactively identifies accounting, control, process, talent, and business risks and opportunities; develops practical solutions and recommendations; and engages the appropriate stakeholders to drive decisions and action.

The VP-Regional Controller leads at a higher altitude by monitoring, challenging, coaching, connecting, escalating, and improving. The role builds strong partnerships with FP&A, Operations, and other functions while preserving Accounting's distinct responsibilities and controllership independence.

What are the primary responsibilities?

• Regional controllership, financial results, and risk
  • Own the accounting health of the region, including the accuracy, integrity, timeliness, and quality of regional financial results; effectiveness of the control environment; resolution of accounting issues; and performance of the regional accounting organization.
  • Apply strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, SOX, Homebuilding accounting policies, and public-company requirements to significant, complex, or unusual matters; ensure conclusions are appropriately supported, documented, consulted upon, and escalated.
  • Lead regional oversight of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close using risk- and exception-based monitoring. Monitor FloQast tasks, division deliverables, reconciliations, unresolved items, and critical dependencies through timely completion.
  • Analyze regional financial statements and close results to identify trends, outliers, and significant drivers of gross margin and other changes. Lead concise regional close readouts that explain what changed, why it changed, what it means, and what actions or follow-up are required.
  • Assist with designing and own execution of monitoring programs that assess the quality, completeness, consistency, and timeliness of division accounting work output. Initiate targeted deep dives based on risk indicators, unusual trends, recurring errors, business changes, Division Controller leadership capability, or other concerns.
  • Perform effective reviews of significant accounting estimates, including impairment, pre-development, other reserves, and other significant transactions or conclusions.
  • Lead regional coordination of internal and external audit activity and ensure findings, repeat issues, and emerging risks are resolved and escalated appropriately.
  • Serve as the accounting leader for acquisitions in the region from diligence through integration, engaging early and proactively across due diligence, U.S. GAAP purchase accounting and valuation, the opening balance sheet, and integration of reporting, close, and control processes. Work closely and on-site with the acquired accounting team to assess talent, deliver training, and transition the business onto Homebuilding policies, systems, and standards.
• People leadership and organizational capability
  • Develop Division Controllers into accounting and business leaders by setting clear expectations, conducting substantive one-on-ones, providing candid feedback and coaching, and prioritizing meaningful in-person time to work directly with Division Controllers and their teams.
  • Conduct periodic skip-level meetings with division accounting teams to assess team culture and engagement, the quality of professional development, Division Controller effectiveness as a leader, and succession readiness within each division.
  • Partner with each Division Controller to create tailored professional development plans, identify the experiences and capabilities needed for growth, and regularly track progress. Ensure Division Controllers establish and maintain meaningful development plans for their teams.
  • Assess technical, process, systems, controls, leadership, and business capability gaps across the region. Implement train-the-trainer programs that equip Division Controllers to train and develop their teams consistently while tailoring development to individual needs.
  • Maintain visibility into Division Controller succession, vacancy, and backfill needs; proactively identify internal successors, interim coverage, development candidates, and external recruiting needs before vacancies create organizational risk.
  • Actively participate in workforce planning, recruiting, interviewing, selection, onboarding, and retention of accounting talent. Regularly assess organizational structure, staffing, capacity, performance, and bench strength and recommend changes needed to support a scalable, high-performing region.
  • Create a connected regional accounting community through knowledge sharing, cross-division projects, mentoring, and collaboration. Foster an environment where team members raise concerns, challenge legacy practices, share ideas, and learn from one another.
• Business partnership, cross-functional alignment, and insight
  • Proactively establish trusted relationships with Regional Presidents, Division Presidents, Regional Finance Officers, FP&A, Operations, Corporate Accounting, Internal Audit, IT, Purchasing, Land, and other key functions.
  • Work closely with FP&A and Operations while maintaining clear functional ownership and controllership independence. Establish effective knowledge sharing so Accounting understands business activity early and contributes an informed perspective to decisions.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the operational and cross-functional processes that drive Homebuilding financial results. Use that understanding to anticipate accounting implications and identify risks and improvement opportunities.
  • Translate accounting results, trends, and risks into clear, forward-looking business insights. Constructively challenge operational and financial assumptions with data and connect results to the actions, decisions, or areas of management attention they indicate.

  • Proactively identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, automate, strengthen controls, improve data quality, eliminate manual or non-value-added work, and enhance the team and stakeholder experience.
  • Investigate issues, develop practical alternatives, assess impacts and risks, and present clear, well-supported recommendations to the Homebuilding Controller and other key stakeholders for approval.
  • Demonstrate curiosity and openness toward new systems, analytics, automation, AI, and evolving tools and processes. Champion approved changes, address resistance and capability gaps constructively amongst your team, and own sustained adoption across the region.
  • Identify effective practices within divisions and partner with peer Regional Controllers and the Homebuilding Controller to determine where practices should be standardized or expanded across Homebuilding Accounting.
  • Communicate complex accounting and business matters clearly and concisely to accounting teams, regional and division leadership, and senior executives. Escalate material matters promptly with the issue, impact, alternatives, and recommended path forward.
  • Adapt priorities and lead decisively in a fast-paced, evolving environment while maintaining appropriate attention to detail, quality, judgment, accountability, and follow-through.

Do you have these qualifications?

• Essential:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA or equivalent professional certification.
  • 12+ years of progressive accounting and controllership experience, including leadership of managers or senior accounting leaders in a complex organization.
  • Advanced knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, SOX, and internal control requirements.
  • Demonstrated success leading geographically dispersed teams, developing talent, managing organizational change, and influencing senior cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Strong financial statement analysis, critical thinking, executive communication, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage financial systems, analytics, automation, and emerging technology to improve accounting processes, controls, and insight.
  • Ability to travel within the assigned region and to Corporate offices as business needs require.
  • Ability to work in office four days per week; additional in-office days vary by Division or Department.
• Preferred:
  • Experience in homebuilding, construction, real estate, or another decentralized, project-based operating environment.
  • Public-company accounting and external reporting experience.
  • Experience with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne (E1), FloQast, business intelligence tools, and process automation.
  • Experience leading controllership transformation, process standardization, or technology implementation across multiple business units or locations.
