Recreation Coordinator

Under general supervision, performs skilled manual and technical work indoors in the office and outdoors at the playgrounds or recreational fields by coordinating activities and operations for the Recreation Department. Conduct recreation activities with groups in public, private, and recreation facilities. Organize and promote activities, such as arts and crafts, sports, games, music, dramatics, social recreation, and hobbies. Reports to Superintendent. Qualifications Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent with at least four (4) to five (5) years of full-time professional recreational work experience with final planning, coordinating and implementing complex multi-faceted recreation programs and activities. Must include computer software knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel data management; or any combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must have a valid Louisiana driver’s license and pass a criminal background check. Must be able to work indoors and outdoors and weekends. All appointments in the classified service shall be made at the minimum rate or such other starting rate specifically authorized by the Commission. In cases where the applicant possesses exceptional qualifications directly related to the classification to which the applicant will be appointed, the Appointing Authority can recommend to the Director that the applicant be assigned up to step 15 for that class, not in excess of the midpoint for that range. Approval is required by the Director before the appointment becomes effective. Plaquemines Parish Government pays all classified employees bi-weekly. Employees must have their pay directly deposited to their bank account. Payroll checks are mailed to the employee’s address on file with the Civil Service Department.
