INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST II

Job Overview Cal OES is seeking a detail‑oriented technology professional to support the California AI Safety Reporting Program as a Cyber Policy and Strategy Planner within the Homeland Security Division’s California Cybersecurity Integration Center (Cal‑CSIC). Key Responsibilities Design and refine AI safety policies, playbooks, and procedures. Analyze critical incident submissions, prepare clear and accurate summaries, and produce legislative reports. Review and analyze AI safety incident reports. Compile and interpret data for annual reporting. Coordinate with partners from Cal‑CSIC, the California Department of Technology (CDT), and other stakeholders to support continuous improvement of statewide reporting processes. Qualifications Deep technical and cybersecurity subject‑matter expertise. Strong writing and critical‑thinking skills – able to manage multiple assignments. Ability to interpret laws and policies and assess their technical implications. Excellent communication skills with executives and stakeholders. Experience collaborating in a fast‑moving environment. Experience in AI, policy analysis, reporting processes, sensitive information handling, or multi‑stakeholder coordination is desirable. Desired Qualifications Risk assessment and development of cybersecurity policies. Familiarity with relevant legal and regulatory frameworks. Understanding of federal, state, and local laws for drafting and implementing cybersecurity policies. Knowledge of emerging technologies and their cybersecurity implications, including AI, ML, and quantum computing. Strong communication abilities for engaging stakeholders. Ability to analyze complex situations and make sound decisions for strategic planning and policy development. Experience working in collaborative environments with partners such as regional fusion centers, Cal‑CSIC, and the Department of Homeland Security.
