Director Of DevelopmentThe Director of Development is responsible for leading and organizing the college's institutional advancement program that provides strong financial support and institutional resource development for James Sprunt Community College's academic agenda, programmatic initiatives and construction projects. The Director of Development is responsible for implementing the College's fundraising, annual giving, planned giving, foundation and corporate sponsorships, grant development and campaign programs. The Director of Development will also serve as the Executive Director for the James Sprunt Foundation, Inc. and serves as a liaison between the Foundation Board of Directors and James Sprunt Community College. This position drives all fundraising strategies and donor relations. The Executive Director role will also oversee daily Foundation operations and provide support to advancement staff.This position serves on the President's Council and reports to the President.Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesThis list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities the ability to perform the essential functions.Foundation OperationsDemonstrates experience in fundraising, donor relations, nonprofit administration, grant writing, or institutional advancement.Develops and maintains relationships with donors, external partners, and internal stakeholders.Develops and executes annual and multi-year fundraising plans, including major gifts, annual giving, planned giving, corporate partnerships, events, and campaigns.Cultivates, solicits, and stewards donors, alumni, business partners, community leaders, and philanthropic organizations.Prepares and presents Foundation reports, budget preparation, financial updates, and strategic recommendations to the President and the Foundation Board.Foundation Grants Leadership & AdministrationLeads the grants strategy for the Foundation, including prospect identification, proposal development, compliance oversight, and reporting requirements.Collaborates with faculty, staff, and administrators to identify funding needs through public and private grant opportunities.Ensures that grant awards comply with all agency requirements, including timely expenditure of funds and alignment with compliance expectations.Maintains centralized documentation, submission timelines, program evaluations, and grant closeout processes.Institutional & Community EngagementServes as an ambassador for the College in the community, strengthening relationships with civic leaders, nonprofits, partners, business and industry, government agencies, and public officials.Supports College marketing, branding, and communication initiatives related to donor engagement, Foundation visibility, and grants success, consistent with institutional advancement priorities.Coordinates Foundation and grant-related events, including donor receptions, fundraising activities, student scholarship ceremonies, cultivation activities, and community programs.Develops and manages a calendar of outreach that effectively involves faculty, staff, alumni, board members and community stakeholders.Operations, Compliance, and Organizational ManagementOversees daily operations of the Office of the Institutional Advancement and Development, including staff supervision, budgeting, resource allocations, and workflow management. This also includes the daily functions of the James Sprunt Foundation, Inc.Ensures accuracy and transparency in donor records, financial documentation, and audit compliance.Develops, maintains and adheres to policies and procedures related to fundraising, grants, stewardship, and donor confidentiality.Prepares materials for audits, accreditation files, board reports, and institutional effectiveness documentation.Acquires computer/technology competencies as appropriate to position.Assists with equipment and software maintenance.Maintains security of personal computer access.Performs other professional or job-related duties as assigned.Serves on college committees as directed by supervisor.Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, and AbilitiesMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Ability to maintain a professional demeanor in a fast-paced environment. Ability to plan and prioritize tasks.EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skill and abilities.Education/Skills:Required: Master's degree from an accredited institution in non-profit management, business, public administration, communications, education, organizational leadership, or related field.Preferred: Some supervisory experience. Experience in community college advancement and philanthropy.Experience:Required: Five years of fundraising experience, including managing institutional development, major gift solicitation, planned giving, events planning, grants, targeted drives for corporate and foundation donations, and sponsorships with demonstrated leadership experience.Preferred: Experience working with boards, foundations, or nonprofit governance structures.
