Licensed Optical Manager

Job Summary Responsible for performing all the duties required of an optician, in addition to managerial duties. The Optical Manager manages, teaches, and coaches the optical team members, interacts with members, confirms appointments, and maintains department upkeep. The role serves as the liaison between members and the lab to ensure that orders are processed timely. The advertised pay range does not include additional compensation from Manager Bonus or spiff programs. Key Responsibilities Provides a high level of member service, including answering all incoming calls and scheduling eye exams. Handles eyeglass adjustments, takes measurements, reads prescriptions on the lensometer, and notifies members of product readiness. Manages all money‑related transactions and completes necessary paperwork for orders. Supervises and trains the optical department team, ensuring engagement both in person and over the phone. Maintains high privacy and confidentiality standards, following HIPAA and company policies. Conducts sales opening and closing procedures, ensuring accurate fund collection and payment processing. Educates patients on product benefits and recommends solutions that improve visual needs. Communicates with the club manager and regional optical manager regarding department performance, maintenance, team performance, and doctor relations. Ensures the optical department is clean, organized, and stocked according to planograms. Oversees staff separations, promotions, and ongoing coaching. Performs any additional duties as assigned. Maintains 100% attendance and availability for open shifts. Qualifications Licensed optician within the state, with license kept active and up to date. Knowledge of optical products and business practices (preferred). High school diploma or college degree; experience in retail, optical, or management preferred. Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including managing cross‑functional teams and driving results. Strong interpersonal, customer service, organizational, and attention‑to‑detail skills. Open shift availability required. Must be at least 18 years of age. Work Environment The role requires frequent movement on hard surfaces, bending, pulling, reaching, and stooping. Lifting objects up to 20 pounds is common, with occasional moves of heavier objects with assistance. The work is conducted indoors with variable temperatures and occasional exposure to loud noise and cleaning agents. Use of optical hand tools is required for adjusting and repairing eyeglasses. Pay Range Starting compensation for this position is $30.00 per hour, with potential for additional bonus and spiff compensation.
