Job Description Now Hiring for the 2026-2027 School Year—10 month position, 8 hours per day. This unique position will support our school kitchens by providing coverage for short‑term and extended absences of existing kitchen managers, ensuring smooth operational continuity. The role will also assist with training and onboarding of kitchen staff. This position demands a high degree of flexibility; the ideal candidate will be required to travel to various school locations within the district, responding to the current needs of the Food Service Team. Essential Functions: Supervises daily food preparation, provides leadership and direction for staff, and gives orientation and training to new employees. Coordinates, schedules, and assigns work for food service staff; monitors quality of work and conducts performance appraisals. Monitors sanitation practices to ensure compliance with standards and regulations. Assists in daily food preparation for school, cooks, prepares individual portions, and performs other cooking duties. Prepares daily, monthly, and yearly food service reports and other required paperwork. Receives and verifies food/supply orders, performs monthly inventory of food/supplies. Serves prepared food to students. Cleans equipment, utensils, dishes, mixers, and machinery; performs general kitchen cleaning duties. Operates a cash register (or equivalent) and processes payments. Interacts with students, parents, and faculty to ensure satisfaction in quality, service, and problem resolution; refers issues to Food Service Manager if necessary. Responds productively to change and handles other essential tasks as assigned. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. State certificate in school food service management preferred. ServSafe certification required within 90 days of employment. Prior K‑12 food service experience required. Omaha/Douglas County Food Handling Sanitation courses and special food service training recommended. Strong organizational, training, supervisory, and record‑keeping skills. Strong interpersonal communication and coaching skills. Ability to interact with children, establish cooperative working relationships, and accurately determine food requirements. Special Requirements: Occasional standing, walking, sitting, lifting (≤40 lb), carrying (10 ft), pushing/pulling, climbing/balancing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling, speaking/hearing, seeing/visual acuity.
