Physician (Hematology and Oncology Program Manager)

Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval – award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Qualifications United States citizenship is required; non‑citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited per VA policy. Doctor of medicine or equivalent allopathic or osteopathic degree from a VA‑approved school. Full and unrestricted state license to practice medicine or surgery. Completed residency training accredited by ACGME or AOA that leads to board certification, or equivalent combinations of post‑medical training and independent practice, or valid license with U.S. practice in comparable specialties. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA programs and otherwise meeting basic requirements may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs). PRPs must have a full license, may only be appointed intermittently, and will not be privileged. Proficient in spoken and written English. Faculty appointment at Wake Forest University School of Medicine commensurate with experience. Preferred: ABIM board certification in Hematology and/or Medical Oncology and fellowship training in adult Hematology & Oncology. Physical requirements include bending, lifting, walking and prolonged standing, and the ability to read and handle equipment and communicate with patients. Additional requirement: Physical readiness for rigorous duties as outlined in VA Directive and Handbook 5019. Reference for full qualification standard: Responsibilities Report to the Section Chief of Hematology and Oncology and serve as a physician leader across Salisbury, Charlotte, and Kernersville sites. Support the Section Chief and manage clinical operations and programs, in addition to primary clinical duties. Act as Director for Infusion Services, ensuring comprehensive infusion care for oncology and general services across all three sites. Develop and standardize infusion processes and policies, following established departmental policies. Collaborate closely with nursing and administrative teams for infusion oversight. Supervise and provide quality oversight for the oncology navigation core; nurse navigators report directly to the Program Manager. Assume acting leadership of Hematology & Oncology when the Section Chief is on approved leave. Lead quality improvement initiatives, research, and general infusion processes. Assist strategic and operational leadership, manage a multi‑disciplinary team of 15 provider FTEs plus ancillary staff. Supervise trainees and promote high‑quality patient outcomes with continuous improvement and scholarly activity. Advance education and research as a full‑time clinician‑educator‑research faculty member, receiving protected time for academic pursuits.
