Adult Cardiac Surgery Advanced Practice Provider

Overview Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) , in partnership with PeaceHealth Southwest Washington Medical Center , is seeking an experienced Adult Cardiac Surgery Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join a busy and well-established adult cardiac surgery practice in Vancouver, Washington, part of the greater Portland, Oregon metropolitan area. This position is employed by OHSU and provides clinical services at PeaceHealth Southwest Washington Medical Center. The APP will join a collaborative team currently consisting of two attending cardiac surgeons and three experienced APPs, supporting a high quality cardiac surgery program known for excellent outcomes, teamwork, and strong collegial culture. This position is part time (0.75 FTE) and is represented by the Oregon Nurses Association – Advanced Practice United (ONA APU) . Position overview The Adult Cardiac Surgery APP provides comprehensive care across the cardiac surgical episode, including operative, inpatient, perioperative, and outpatient care. The role supports a predominantly inpatient and operative practice model, with significant responsibilities in the operating room, including billable first-assist services, as well as ICU/intermediate care, clinic coverage, and participation in call coverage. The APP works closely with cardiothoracic surgeons, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary care teams to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality care from preoperative evaluation through hospitalization and postoperative follow-up. Key responsibilities Operating Room: First assisting for adult cardiac surgical procedures, including CABG and aortic procedures; endoscopic vein harvesting experience is highly desired Inpatient Care: ICU and intermediate care management of postoperative cardiac surgery patients, daily rounding, care coordination, and discharge planning Outpatient Care: Preoperative evaluations, postoperative follow up visits, wound care, and clinic coverage to support continuity of care Call Coverage: Participation in a home call rotation, including overnight and holiday call, proportionate to 0.75 FTE Schedule & Coverage Scheduled 10-hour clinical shifts (7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.), including weekday, weekend, and holiday clinical shifts, proportionate to 0.75 FTE. Home call by pager, including required holiday and overnight call, proportionate to FTE. Practice environment Employer: Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). Clinical Site: PeaceHealth Southwest Washington Medical Center. Practice Model: Shared adult cardiac surgery practice. Team: 2 attending cardiac surgeons, 4 APPs, and a strong interdisciplinary support team. Qualifications Required Master’s degree in Nursing as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) or Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AG-ACNP), or Master’s degree in Physician Assistant/Associate Studies from an accredited program Current or eligible Oregon and Washington licensure, appropriate to discipline NP candidates must hold current APRN licensure and RNFA certification PA candidates must hold current PA licensure and NCCPA certification Ability to obtain and maintain credentialing at both OHSU and PeaceHealth Southwest Washington Medical Center Current national certification appropriate to discipline and specialty Current BLS and ACLS certification Current DEA registration or eligibility to obtain Excellent communication skills, clinical judgment, and ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary cardiothoracic surgery team Preferred At least 2 years of experience in adult cardiac surgery Endoscopic vein harvesting experience Prior inpatient surgical or critical care experience Why OHSU at PeaceHealth SWMC?
