Health Room Assistant

Position reports to Principal and District Nurse

Job Summary: Administer first aid to sick or injured children and staff following district procedures including: Notification of suspected contagious disease Checks suspected cases of head lice Maintains first aid supplies and Health Room. Maintains all State and district required health records and maintain student health database including documentation of: Annual Health Information sheets List of students with health issues Visits to the health office Accident reports Student absentee excuses and physician statements Immunizations and state mandated testing Vision and hearing screening results and follow-up List of students with health issues for field trips and excursions Check and maintain daily attendance and attendance records and notify Principal of any excessive absence or truancy issues. Account for each absent student by 10am. Greets all visitors courteously, determines their needs, checks appointments, and directs them to the appropriate person. Administers medication according to Board Policy as stated in Information Handbook. Periodic AED checks and reports any malfunction for follow-up with the Principal and School Nurse. Provides any needed medication according to district policy for any Excursions / Field Trips and provides first aid kit for teachers. Facilitates staff accident reports. Log Medicaid reimbursement services. Performs general office duties such as word processing, operating office machines, handling telephone calls, filling teacher requests, delivering messages and entering computer data. Performs the duties of the school secretary when they are not present. Works together with the Secretary, including to register all incoming students and maintain and process student records according to State law. Performs other duties and assumes responsibilities as assigned by school Principal.

Evaluation: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually and in accordance with the provisions established by the policies of the Board of Education.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma
• Proficient in computer skills which include: Google Suite (or similar), word processing, spreadsheets, databases, powerpoint, and the internet.
• Knowledge of basic office procedures and the operation of office equipment/machines.
• Successful completion of Annual CPR/AED and first aide training (adult and child).
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as may be appropriate.

Working Conditions: 10-month position, 7.5 hours/day, 214 days per year, Elementary building.
