AccountantWe are seeking an experienced Accountant to join our Finance team. This role is essential to the Finance team and offers broad exposure to nonprofit accounting.This position is responsible for core general ledger accounting functions, with a strong focus on daily accounting activities related to museum operating revenue, donations, balance sheet reconciliations, and month-end close processes.Familiarity with accurate revenue classification, including unrestricted and restricted contributions, is beneficial to ensure proper financial reporting and compliance. The Accountant helps ensure the accuracy and integrity of the museum's financial records and works closely with the Finance team to support timely and compliant financial reporting.The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable collaborating across departments to gather the information needed for accurate accounting and reporting.This role requires a willingness to work additional hours as necessary to successfully complete month-end and year-end closing activities and meet audit requirements and deadlines.The essential duties and responsibilities listed in this job description are representative of the work performed in this position. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Properly record and reconcile daily cash receipts from museum admissions, retail activity, and donationsEnsure accurate classification of revenue, including unrestricted and restricted contributionsPrepare and post journal entries in accordance with GAAP and internal accounting policiesPerform monthly balance sheet account reconciliations, including but not limited to, cash, receivables, deferred revenue, and other assigned accountsInvestigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely mannerMaintain clear reconciliation schedules and supporting documentationSupport month-end and year-end close processesSupport audit preparation by providing schedules, reconciliations, and documentation as requestedSupport the Controller with a variety of finance-related projectsCollaborate with Development, Admissions, and Operations teams to ensure accurate financial data flowWork within various accounting and operational systems to ensure data accuracyIdentify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and reconciliation proceduresEducation and ExperienceBachelor's degree in accounting or a related field required. An equivalent combination of education, training, and progressively responsible accounting experience demonstrating a strong foundation in accounting principles will also be considered.Minimum of 2–3 years of accounting experience performing the core responsibilities and functions outlined for this roleExperience with nonprofit accounting and MIP or similar fund accounting software is preferredHands-on experience with general ledger accounting, balance sheet reconciliations, and month-end close proceduresStrong understanding of general ledger accounting principles and internal controlsStrong organizational, communication, and time-management skills, with the ability to effectively prioritize tasks and meet deadlinesStrong analytical skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft applications, and experience working efficiently in cloud-based environmentsSelf-starter with demonstrated ability to prioritize work and see tasks through to completionAbility to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously while remaining flexible, adaptable, and effective under pressure as a collaborative team memberThis position may be eligible for employer-provided group health plans and other benefits depending on employment status and hours worked.
