Registered Nurse (RN) – ICU Stepdown (Neurosurgery)

Facility: University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC)
Location: Rochester, NY
Position Type: 13-Week Contract
Start Date: August 3, 2026
End Date: October 31, 2026

Schedule

• Rotating Day/Evening/Night Shifts
• 36 or 48 hours per week
• Weekends, holidays, on-call, and callback as required

Job Overview

Join the Neurosurgery ICU Stepdown team at URMC, caring for patients with complex neurological and neurosurgical conditions. You'll collaborate with a multidisciplinary team providing care for patients recovering from brain tumors, stroke, spinal disorders, epilepsy surgery, neuroendovascular procedures, and other advanced neurological conditions.

Required Experience

• Minimum 2 years of RN experience
• Recent ICU Stepdown or PCU experience (Required)
• High-acuity stroke and neurosurgery experience
• Telemetry monitoring experience

Clinical Skills

Candidates should have experience with:

• Q1 Neurological Assessments
• External Ventricular Drains (EVD)
• Lumbar & Subdural Drains
• 3% Normal Saline Infusions
• Cardene Drips
• Arterial Lines
• Carotid Endarterectomy Patients
• Aneurysm Coiling & Clipping
• Deep Brain Stimulator (DBS) Patients
• VP Shunts
• Seizure Management

Required Qualifications

• Active New York RN License
• BLS (AHA)
• ACLS (AHA)
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

Preferred

• Recent EPIC EMR experience
