Senior Product Manager I - Hunt
Missoula, Montana, United States
About OnX
We're a team of builders, adventurers, and risk takers using technology to help people confidently explore the outdoors. Driven by our mission to awaken the adventurer inside everyone, we build products that optimize every outdoor experience and inspire confidence to get out and go further.
We're a high-growth tech company. The pace is fast, the work takes grit, and ambiguity is part of the job. As the world changes around us, we adapt - continuously evolving how we build, prioritize, and deliver.
Our business moves quickly, and there's real opportunity to shape what we build next. Each of our verticals - Hunt, Offroad, Backcountry, and Fish - is at a different stage of maturity, which means the challenges you encounter and the impact you have will vary depending on where you sit and what the business needs most.
We operate with an experimentation mindset, continually iterating and improving how we solve problems. We expect our people to use the latest tooling, including AI, thoughtfully and responsibly, pairing human judgment with technology to increase quality, speed, and impact.
Our impact comes to life through the products we build, in the stories of our customers, and in our growing commitment to land stewardship and recreational access.
About This Opportunity
Hunt is onX's most complex vertical, serving a diverse set of customers across public and private land use cases. As the product evolves, we're focused on improving the end-to-end Hunt experience—driving deeper engagement, retention, and long-term value.
We're hiring a Senior Product Manager to help shape and drive this next phase. Reporting to the Group Product Director of Hunt, you'll define meaningful problems, lead discovery, and drive solutions from concept through launch.
This is a hands-on, builder-oriented role. You'll move between insight and execution—getting close to customers, turning ambiguity into clear priorities, and driving work forward to shipped outcomes. You'll partner closely with product leadership to shape direction while owning execution within your domain.
You'll operate in a matrixed product organization, working across Hunt and shared platform teams (e.g., Navigation, Offline Maps) to ensure solutions meet Hunt customer needs while scaling across verticals.
What You'll Do Essential Job Duties & Functions
- Shape and execute product strategy through hands-on discovery, customer insight, and problem framing
- Own a product area end-to-end—from problem definition through delivery and iteration
- Drive measurable outcomes (engagement, retention, adoption) and use data to inform prioritization
- Translate ambiguous opportunities into clear plans, aligned teams, and shipped product
- Partner cross-functionally across engineering, design, marketing, and platform teams
- Influence shared platform capabilities to scale across verticals while advocating for Hunt-specific needs
- Use AI and data to accelerate discovery, decision-making, and product development
- Drive experimentation, including defining success metrics, running tests, and learning from results
- Communicate clearly with stakeholders and leadership on priorities, progress, and impact
Note: This is a condensed overview for job posting purposes. A more detailed description of the role and responsibilities will be shared with candidates who move forward in the interview process.
What You'll Bring
- 7+ years of progressive product management experience delivering consumer-facing mobile software, with a demonstrated track record of owning and delivering end-to-end product outcomes that measurably improved engagement, retention, or conversion.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
- Deep fluency in mobile-first product ecosystems, with hands-on experience managing the full lifecycle of iOS and/or Android consumer applications.
- Proven ability to drive outcomes through influence in complex, cross-functional environments, including matrix organizations, aligning engineering, design, marketing, and leadership around a shared product direction without direct authority.
- Experience defining and operationalizing product success metrics, including user segmentation, cohort analysis, funnel optimization, and growth levers, with a track record of using those metrics to inform prioritization and drive execution.
- Demonstrated experience using AI tools to accelerate product discovery, improve decision quality, and enhance product development workflows, with evidence of applying AI beyond basic or surface-level use.
- Experience taking products or features from inception through maturity, including navigating the ambiguity of early-stage definition and the driving execution to scale what works..
- Proven ability to translate complex, multi-stakeholder problems into clear product decisions, and drive those decisions through execution, with the communication skills to bring executives, technical partners, and cross-functional teams along.
- Strong command of agile development practices, with experience working in continuous delivery environments and iterating rapidly based on data and customer feedback.
- Experience operating in ambiguous problem spaces, creating clarity, and driving momentum without fully defined requirements or direction.
- Genuine curiosity about and connection to the onX Hunt customer, whether through lived experience as an outdoor enthusiast or a demonstrated ability to deeply immerse in and advocate for a specific customer community.
- A shared passion for and ability to demonstrate onX's Company Values.
- Permanent US work authorization is a condition of employment with onX.
- Ability to travel monthly or quarterly, depending on location, for multi-day visits to a corporate office or other onX locations (e.g., Basecamps).
Added Bonuses
Though not required, we would be thrilled to consider candidates with any of the following:
- Experience working on products that serve multiple distinct customer segments within a single product ecosystem, where shared experiences had to work well for different types of users without feeling generic to any of them
- Experience owning information architecture, navigation design, or onboarding flows in a consumer mobile app, particularly where the challenge was helping users discover and adopt a deep feature set
- Experience driving measurable improvements in feature adoption, activation, or engagement depth, and a clear point of view on what actually moves those metrics versus what just looks good on a roadmap
- Experience partnering with multiple product lines and platform teams to ship scalable and cohesive end-to-end experiences, especially in environments where influence mattered more than direct ownership
- Experience in 0→1 or 1→n product evolution, especially where the problem space was not fully defined upfront
- Experience working in high-growth or rapidly evolving product environments
The OnX Experience
OnX is a distributed company with more than 400 employees across the country. We come together regularly to work in person and stay connected through regional basecamps and a culture that balances individual ownership with deep collaboration.
While we move quickly, we're not a scrappy start-up. We operate with clear goals, structure, and frameworks that guide how we prioritize and execute. Priorities matter. While they may shift, data shapes how we evolve as our business, products, and the world around us change.
Clear priorities and structure don't limit ownership—they make it possible. You'll have the autonomy to define your work and make meaningful decisions within clear strategic boundaries. You'll partner closely with others to solve complex problems and build solutions that scale across teams and platforms. Along the way, you'll be supported with feedback, tools, and opportunities to grow your craft as you take on new challenges.
Where You Can Work
OnX has created a thriving distributed workforce designed to foster connection, collaboration, and shared experience across several US locations. We have two HQ locations in Bozeman and Missoula, MT and established virtual workforce Basecamps in Austin, TX; Denver, CO; Kalispell, MT; Minneapolis, MN; Portland, OR; Salt Lake City, UT; and Seattle, WA.
How You'll Be Compensated
OnX is committed to compensating all employees fairly and equitably for their contributions. For this position, applicants can expect to make between $143,000 to $179,000 upon hire. The pay range will vary based on experience, skills, certifications, and education among other factors as required in the job description. In addition, full-time onX employees are eligible for a grant of common share options with a vesting schedule and a potential annual bonus of 10
