Assistant Professor

Position Overview The UNT Dallas College of Law welcomes applications from experienced lawyers, judges, and law school instructors for a full‑time, tenure‑track Assistant Professor of Law. The successful candidate will teach twelve credit hours per academic year beginning with the 2026‑2027 academic year. The College is particularly interested in candidates who can teach Business Associations or Constitutional Law. Other areas of interest include Wills, Trusts, and Estates, Criminal Law, Appellate and Trial Advocacy, and Evidence. Faculty members will also support the College’s Classroom to Career initiative, integrating experiential learning such as internships and project‑based collaborations. Expectations include following instructional and curricular practices of the College of Law, using Canvas LMS, learning outcomes, multiple assessments, and research and writing modules. Department Summary The UNT Dallas College of Law is an ABA‑fully approved public law school located downtown Dallas. It offers a full‑time day division and a part‑time evening division. Its goals are widening access to legal education for capable individuals, developing practice‑related competencies through best instructional practices, keeping tuition and debt low, advancing the understanding of best legal education practices, improving access to justice, and serving as a partner with the City of Dallas. Minimum Qualifications J.D. degree Superb academic and professional qualifications Practice experience that is sufficiently extensive and high quality to serve as a foundation for teaching Demonstrated excellence in teaching and mentoring for professional formation of students Commitment to the College’s goals and its curricular and instructional methods Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form Skill in editing documents for correct grammar Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships Job Duties Plan, evaluate, and deliver engaging legal courses to students. Lead classroom discussions, provide guidance, and maintain office hours. Assign and grade student work, and provide feedback. Investigate legal issues, develop new theories, and contribute to the intellectual development of the legal field. Serve on faculty and university committees to contribute to governance and supervision of institutional activities. Collaborate with colleagues and participate in university initiatives and public service activities.
