We are looking for a detail-oriented Bookkeeper to support client accounting needs and contribute to accurate, timely financial operations in San Rafael, California. This role is ideal for someone who is comfortable managing multiple sets of books, handling day-to-day accounting activities, and coordinating closely with colleagues to keep client records current and compliant. The position offers the opportunity to work across a range of financial tasks, from payroll and reconciliations to reporting and tax-related filings.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee bookkeeping activities for multiple client accounts using QuickBooks Online, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately and financial records remain up to date.

• Perform bank and account reconciliations, prepare journal entries, and generate financial reports to support regular review and decision-making.

• Administer payroll processing and help maintain accurate payroll records in accordance with filing deadlines.

• Prepare and submit required financial and tax-related forms, including 1099s, W-2s, personal property tax filings, sales tax returns, payroll tax returns, and business receipt returns.

• Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including invoice tracking, payment application, collections follow-up, and account balancing.

• Gather and organize financial documentation from clients and internal sources to maintain complete and audit-ready records.

• Support internal receivables operations by preparing invoices, processing payments, and reconciling customer accounts for the firm.

• Build strong client relationships through responsive communication and dependable service that helps strengthen ongoing business partnerships.

• Collaborate with the tax team to provide accurate financial information and ensure accounting records align with broader client service needs.

• At least 2 years of bookkeeping or closely related accounting experience; experience in a tax firm environment is preferred.

• Hands-on proficiency with QuickBooks Online, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.

• Working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and general bookkeeping practices.

• Experience preparing or assisting with sales tax, payroll tax, and personal property tax filings.

• Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple client assignments effectively.

• Ability to work independently, stay detail-focused, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is an advantage.

• Familiarity with construction accounting and job costing is a plus.
