For more information about Oakland County benefits and employee perks, please visit: Minimum Qualifications Location: Waterford Pay Rate: $21.50 per hour NOTE: This is a part time position limited to 1,000 hours/year. Responsibilities Interact with market visitors and vendors by answering questions and assisting with daily customer service. Maintain market order and ensure vendors and patrons follow policies, rules, and regulations. Open and/or close the market; clean the market and inspect stalls after closing to ensure vendors leave in a neat, clean, and orderly condition. Work some weekends, evenings, and holidays. Operate the point-of-sale computer system to collect rental fees, handle cash transactions, make change, provide receipts, and ensure transactions are processed correctly. Deposit monies in the bank and maintain accounting books and records as requested or directed by higher-level staff. Respond to inquiries of vendors, patrons, and the general public in person or by phone, email or mail regarding the use of the market. Provide information regarding fees, rules, and regulations; make reservations for specific rental areas. Assist with programs and special events designed to increase patronage of the facility as needed or requested. Direct arrangement of vehicles on market grounds as needed. Resolve customer and vendor complaints or escalation to higher-level staff. Write detailed daily/weekly reports for higher-level staff concerning market operations, rules, requests, complaints, suggestions, etc. Inspect facilities to ensure maintenance, improvement, and repair of buildings, grounds, equipment, and sanitary facilities. Assist with facility upkeep including cleaning bathrooms, taking out trash, sweeping/mopping floors, organizing supplies and storerooms. Maintain records on supply inventories and provide input on purchase of additional inventories. Enforce the rules and regulations of the Parks and Recreation Commission with assistance from other park employees and deputies. Cooperate with the State Agricultural Inspectors in enforcement of regulations governing the sale of agricultural and processed food products. Communicate with emergency officials as needed during incidents; complete all incident reports required and work with Risk Management representatives following events. Assist with Emergency Response efforts by supporting training, educating employees, and overseeing implementation of plans during emergencies. Provide input on market policies and procedures to maximize customer service and utilization of the market. Assist with training market employees to perform duties in accordance with proper park procedures. Use current countywide and/or department-specific software to complete assignments. Account for fees received, maintain records, and provide input and recommendations to the supervisor regarding budget proposals and expenditures. Coordinate work schedules for part‑time staff; provide input on hiring, training, and performance management of part‑time staff. Inspect and provide input to higher-level park staff regarding maintenance, improvement, repair of buildings, grounds, and equipment. Oversee recreational program activities and special events for all groups; provide leadership to part‑time staff and volunteers during programs and/or special events. Evaluate results of recreational programs and recommend adjustments as needed. Experience, Training, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required Minimum Qualifications Must be at least 18 years old. Must have at least six (6) months of full‑time equivalent experience in a supervisory or administrative capacity preferably in a park, recreation, and/or program setting; OR have at least six (6) months paid or voluntary experience in leadership for civic, philanthropic, school clubs, or sports teams. Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s or chauffeur’s license. Additional Desirable Qualifications Familiar with Oakland County Parks and Recreation Commission Rules and Regulations for park properties. Considerable ability to establish favorable working relationships with others. Considerable knowledge of cash management practices, point-of-sale functions, and customer service. Physical condition that permits performing manual duties outdoors in varying weather conditions, standing and walking, and lifting heavy objects as needed. Considerable ability to work under pressure in emergency situations. Reasonable ability to maintain personal cleanliness and a presentable public appearance. Reasonable knowledge of safety practices. Familiar with current word processing, spreadsheet, database, e‑mail, and Internet software. Special Requirements When assigned to a youth recreational program, candidates must provide documentation from the Michigan Department of Human Services confirming no records as the perpetrator of child abuse or neglect. Applicants will also sign a form authorizing a criminal history check per the privacy act of 1974. Applicants will not be considered if they have been convicted of either of the following: (a) Child Abuse or Neglect; (b) A felony involving harm or threatened harm to an individual within the 10 years immediately preceding the date of hire. Supervision Exercised Functions as a leader over part‑time seasonal staff and volunteers; instructs, directs, assigns, schedules, checks, and appraises performance (oversees 1–40 staff per shift, depending on work assignment). Additional Duties & Responsibilities Coordinate work schedules for part‑time seasonal staff and volunteers. Prepare reports on weekly, monthly, and end-of-season activities as needed. Assist with tracking inventory, purchasing supplies, and making recommendations to the budget process. Be responsible for cleaning or maintenance tasks, performing basic repairs, restocking machines, and providing basic technical support to staff. Independently respond to operations problems to provide customers with a safe and enjoyable park experience. Provide support for partnerships and sponsorships that support park operations, park development, community outreach, or recreational programs and events. Interact with administrative staff, external partners, and sponsors to coordinate scheduling, planning, and implementation of group activities and special events hosted at park facilities. Provide input for grant applications or assist with tracking and reporting on grant‑funded programs. Essential Mental & Physical Requirements Ability to communicate and perform duties related to the functionality of the assigned Parks & Recreation facility. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to provide written and oral instruction to others. Working Conditions Work is performed primarily outside with exposure to weather conditions; may participate in duties requiring driving or being a passenger in an automobile; must be able to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
