Software Engineer

Position Overview We are searching for an experienced, detail-oriented, and customer service focused Software Engineer to join our AI for Visual Analytics (AIVA) Team at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State. This position involves the design, development, testing, deployment and maintenance of a variety of software programs in support of our government customers. The role is on‑site in State College, PA or Key West, FL. ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply. Responsibilities Design, implement, test, debug, modify, document, performance tune, and maintain software applications. Assist with the integration of new and existing software features into existing workflows. Analyze and translate business process requirements into technical solutions. Ensure compliance with standards and requirements; monitor threats, alerts, and security vulnerabilities. Required Skills and Experience Proficiency with Windows Server, Red Hat Linux, and SELinux systems. Experience with Java, SQL, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. Strong analytical skills for diagnosing and resolving technical issues. Effective communication and organizational skills in diverse environments. Active Secret Security Clearance. Preferred Skills and Experience Prior U.S. Government related work. A degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering. Current eligibility for access to classified information at the Top Secret level or higher, and willingness to undergo a government background investigation to upgrade clearance eligibility if required. Minimum Education and Experience Advanced Professional: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Science; 5+ years of relevant experience; no required certifications. Intermediate Professional: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Science; 2+ years of relevant experience; no required certifications. Location Fully on-site in State College, PA or Key West, FL. Salary and Benefits Salary range: $105,900.00 – $200,808.00.
