Accountant II

Job Title

This position will require a detail-oriented employee to calculate daily depository collateral requirements, process pledges and withdrawals of collateral, perform monthly reconciliations of collateral pledges, respond to public entities and external depositories, and assist with the Guaranty Pool Board. Duties may also include the processing, accounting, and reconciliation of investment securities transactions such as purchases, maturities, and interest payments.

Job Description

The Mississippi State Treasury's Investments and Collateral Division handles the day-to-day Investment, Banking, and Collateral operations for the State. The Division has responsibilities for managing the State excess funds and operating bank balances, working closely across Divisions and with other State Agencies to service public funds through Treasury. Additional responsibilities include the processing and monitoring of collateral held for public funds of public entities and municipalities by qualified depositories throughout the State.

What You'll Need to Be Successful

Working knowledge of basic office tools, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, is essential. The employee will be expected to work 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The employee will find great success as a self-starter, willing to work alone or as part of a team, and highly organized. Employee will need excellent customer/constituent service skills and the ability to communicate clearly in a professional, knowledgeable, and precise manner. This position also requires the ability to identify and resolve accounting and compliance discrepancies across multiple platforms and accounting systems. Project management skills will be required to be successful in this position. The employee should be highly professional, have exemplary phone etiquette, and be responsive to multiple constituencies. The employee will need proficient writing skills to ensure all written correspondence with customers and other professional colleagues is clear, concise, and free of grammatical errors.

Preferred Qualifications

Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree and 2-4 years of experience and/or appropriate certification. —-Agency Preferred Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, Communications or a related field and two (2) to four (4) years of experience working in Finance or Accounting.
