Senior Accountant

Description Nonprofit community developer and affordable home builder seeks a highly motivated individual and experienced Senior Accountant to join their Neighborhood Programs. Neighborhood Housing Services of Los Angeles County (NHS) serves as a catalyst for local residents, business and government representatives to work together to build stronger neighborhoods, improve the quality of life for low to moderate income families and revitalize communities into neighborhoods of choice. Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration or finance is required since this role conducts assigned internal audits and special accounting studies assigned by the Chie Financial Officer, analyzes various general ledger and subsidiary activities to understand account activity or prepare spreadsheets; prepares reports of findings and recommendations. The Senior Accountant implements a wide variety of accounting concepts related to capital projects; confers with appropriate departments regarding projects; records construction and labor costs in detail and summary forms; maintains accounting records. This role also collects and compiles information for assigned studies and prepares summaries, ad hoc reports and recommendations, as appropriate; assists in the development of accounting systems, procedures, policies and manuals, and perform related work as required. In addition to routine accounting tasks (i.e., general ledger bookkeeping, reconciling, month-end closing), this role will have a heavy emphasis on billing, working with grants and contracts, and applying receipts. Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for the following tasks: Requirements Applying cash receipts on a daily basis, and reconciling discrepancies Working with other departments for timely recording and billing on all revenue items (i.e., leases, grants billing, contract billing, etc.) Preparing bank reconciliation on a monthly basis Preparing monthly rent roll on leases, and distributing monthly rent invoice Preparing summary cash receipt reports, and distributing them to senior management on a weekly or as needed basis Preparing program-specific summary reports as directed Completing month-end closing and supporting schedules for assigned accounts Performing financial analysis on an as-needed basisAssisting the department with ad-hoc and special projects Knowledgeable on other team members’ desks and ability to provide backup support when needed Knowledge of: Advanced accounting principles, practices and methods Proficient in Excel (Pivot Table, V-lookup etc.) Methods and techniques of financial analysis and research procedures Methods and techniques of auditing Data processing as it relates to financial and fiscal record keeping and reporting Modern office procedures, methods and equipment including computers and related software Seven (7)+ years of experience in accounting, and preferably non-profit accounting Ability to: Stay organized and follow policies and procedures to provide balance and structure to the role and the department Detailed oriented Able to make arithmetic computations quickly and accurately, and perform statistical and financial analysis Excellent oral and written communication skills Classify fiscal documents and transactions Gather, organize and analyze financial information and arrive at sound conclusions Prepare clear and concise reports and other materials Financial and fiscal practices and record keeping Identify problems, define and recommend alternative solutions and implement appropriate solutions Establish and maintain effective relationships Operate a variety of office equipment including computers and applicable software applications Ability to work independently Benefits: Medical Benefits Paid Time Off Matching 401K Salary: $75,000 - $90,000 per year DOE #J-18808-Ljbffr Nhs-of-Los-Angeles-County
