Job Summary and Qualifications

The Registered Respiratory Therapist is responsible for coordinating and delivering high-quality, patient-focused respiratory care in alignment with departmental requirements and consistent with state and specialty practice standards. As an essential member of the patient care team, the Respiratory Therapist conducts various diagnostic tests and therapeutic procedures while monitoring patients who are receiving both invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct and document patient assessments, including breath sounds, airway patency, and cuff pressure. Perform diagnostic procedures to determine the necessity for and response to respiratory therapy.
• Administer respiratory care therapies, such as oxygen delivery, aerosol medication delivery, and chest physiotherapy.
• Assist in the placement of artificial airways and initiate, monitor, and maintain mechanical ventilation.
• Monitor patients for therapeutic responses and notify providers while intervening as necessary in case of unexpected reactions.
• Assist in the transportation of patients who depend on ventilators.
• Respond to emergency situations, ensuring airway integrity and adequate ventilation during resuscitation as needed.

Qualifications Required:

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification must be obtained within 90 days of starting employment.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC-RRT).
• State certification as a Respiratory Therapist/Practitioner (RRT/RCP).
• Associate Degree in a relevant field.
