Associate Director of Nursing, RN - Cardiac Operating Room (Peds/Adults) - Day Shift

Description Associate Director of Nursing (ADON) for Cardiac Operating Rooms provides strategic, clinical and operational leadership for adult and pediatric cardiac surgical services. The role is accountable for nursing practice oversight, staffing strategy, case flow and interdisciplinary collaboration to ensure safe, efficient and high‑quality perioperative care. The ADON partners closely with cardiac surgeons, anesthesiologists, perfusionists, nursing leadership and support services to optimize patient outcomes, service efficiency and staff development. The ADON requires strong clinical expertise in adult and pediatric cardiac surgery, demonstrated leadership in managing complex teams and the ability to lead positive changes in a high‑acuity, high‑reliability environment. Responsibilities Clinical Leadership – expert clinical oversight for adult and pediatric cardiac surgical nursing practice, adherence to evidence‑based standards and regulatory requirements. Specialized Competencies – open heart procedures, mechanical circulatory support, pediatric cardiac surgery, ECMO and emergent cardiac cases. Patient Safety – lead patient safety initiatives, Root Cause Analyses, corrective action planning and readiness for regulatory surveys. Patient Experience – lead nursing practice using the Professional Practice Model of Relationship‑Centered Care and the Care Delivery Model of Modified Primary Nursing, proficiency in Purposeful Hourly Rounding and integration of PHR into clinical activities. Quality and Safety – design, support and lead a safe, therapeutic and efficient patient‑centered care environment, participate in RCA process, foster a fair culture for error reporting and lead interdisciplinary quality improvement teams. Operations and Administration – support implementation of mission, vision, goals and objectives, provide administrative oversight to service line, maintain regulatory compliance, oversee clinical leadership staff and practice financial stewardship. Staffing Strategy & Workforce Management – accountable for cardiac OR staffing models, schedule management, staffing plans, productivity targets, recruitment, retention, onboarding of cardiac OR nursing staff and compliance with collective bargaining agreements. Professional Development – evaluate and direct environment of care, advance clinical competence, develop and lead an environment that cultivates a professional image of nursing, support shared decision‑making and encourage scholarship and lifelong learning. Qualifications Education Requirements – Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master’s degree in Nursing or health‑related specialty. Experience Requirements – 3‑5 years minimum demonstrated clinical and administrative expertise in area of nursing practice assigned. Licensing and Certification Requirements – RN (New York State), BLS, NRP, ACLS, PALS, leadership or clinical specialty board certification preferred. Compensation Statement The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $185,000.00 – $200,000.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
