Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week night shift contract requiring a WI or compact RN license and 3 years of ICU experience.

Details

• 17-bed ICU unit within a Level III Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center with Level II NICU
• 12-hour night shift (1900-0730), 36 hours per week
• RN patient ratio of 1:2 based on acuity
• CNA ratio of 1:8 days and 1:17 nights
• Patient population includes general medical (COVID, sepsis, ETOH, IVDA, OD, SI, delirium, GIB, stroke w/ TPA, ARF), surgical (general, open abdomen, ortho total joints, ENT, OBGYN), and cardiac/vascular cases (fem-pop bypass, CABG, valves, post cath radial approach, AAA, amputations)
• Bedside telemetry monitoring used
• EPIC EMR preferred along with Alaris and Pyxis equipment
• Every other weekend rotation required
• Every other holiday coverage required
• No on-call requirements
• Floating to intermediate units (1:3), MSU, ED boarding (1:4), and observation units (1:4) may be required, though floating is typically rare
• Travelers float first when floating is needed

Requirements

• Active WI or compact RN license required
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• NIHSS certification preferred
• Minimum 3 years of ICU experience required
• CRRT (NxStage) experience preferred
• General ICU skills required including vent/trach management, invasive line management (A-line, CVP, Swan), drain/tube management, foley management, chest tubes, post-surgical recovery, and post cath experience
• Fresh heart experience preferred
• CVVH and balloon pump experience required
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
• Candidate's middle name or initial, date of birth, and last 4 of SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide critical care nursing to a diverse ICU patient population including medical, surgical, and cardiac/vascular cases
• Unit support includes 24/7 intensivist coverage, 24/7 respiratory therapy, day-shift ICU pharmacist, charge nurse with occasional patient assignment, unit secretary, educator, and phlebotomy team for peripheral draws
• N95 and PAPR respirators provided along with adequate PPE
• COVID vaccine required
• One day of orientation including badge access, CBL training, and meeting with the educator and nurse manager, followed by a shift with a preceptor
• Scrubs may be any color except camo, denim, or hoodies
• Free parking available
• RTO requests are subject to manager approval
• More than two sick calls may prompt contract review and possible termination
• First-time travelers considered with minimum 3 years of ICU experience
• Local candidates accepted at the same rate with no radius restrictions
• Former employees of the health system or its subsidiaries must be separated at least 12 months before becoming eligible for travel assignments
