Special Education Teacher in Athens, GA

Job Description

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, active Special Education Teacher license and minimum 1+ years Special Education Teacher experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

Special education professionals who are passionate about making a difference are needed for rewarding contract positions serving students with diverse needs. Opportunities are available at both elementary and middle school levels within a supportive school environment near Athens, Georgia.

Candidates will work onsite, collaborating with staff and families to provide specialized instruction for students with autism. The contract runs from late July 2026 through May 2027 and offers full-time hours throughout the academic year.

Qualifications & Experience:

Current and active Georgia Special Education Teaching License
Proper endorsements: Adaptive SPED Certification for Level 3 Autism (elementary) or SPED General Curriculum Certification for Level 1 Autism (middle school)
Experience working with students with autism and understanding of individual education plans (IEPs)
Ability to manage a self-contained classroom with high physical and academic needs (elementary)
Skills in supporting inclusive education and small group instruction (middle school)
Commitment to fostering a compassionate, structured, and positive classroom environment

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and implement individualized learning plans for students with autism
Provide adaptive and differentiated instruction tailored to each student’s unique needs
Collaborate with general educators, support staff, and families to ensure student progress
Maintain student records and documentation in line with district and state requirements
Utilize evidence-based strategies to support academic, behavioral, and social development
