Position Title: Business Development Specialist Department: Marketing Classification: Non-Exempt REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS Position Reports To: Marketing Manager Positions Supervised: None INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CONTACTS INTERNAL: Executive Management, Branch and Department Managers, Staff EXTERNAL: Vendors, Business Community, Marketing Professionals POSITION PURPOSE Maximize the Credit Union's community involvement while developing relationships and networking to enhance potential growth. Serve as the Credit Union outside sales representative by actively identifying, cultivating, soliciting, developing, and servicing comprehensive business development programs. Participates on committees as assigned and provides support to marketing and Credit Union personnel as necessary. Maintains a positive professional image and reputation of the Credit Union in the community. Completes administrative duties for marketing, public relations and business development. Ensures that community activities support short and long-term objectives and assist marketing with planning and execution of Credit Union goals. Responsible for enhancing the image of the Credit Union in both business and local communities.
NATURE AND SCOPE This position requires excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail. Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to work well independently are also vital to the successful execution of this position. Position requires offsite travel in personal vehicle and the ability to attend offsite functions promoting the Credit Union. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES 1. Assumes responsibility for effectively completing public relations activities. a. Responsible for the development of a regular planned program for scheduled site visits, tracking of site visits, and reporting on site visits of present and potential business development and community involvement. b. Assist with writing and distributing press releases.
c. Search for areas of opportunity to grow and enhance the Credit Union community involvement that will align with the Credit Union brand and culture. d. Develop an organized way of measuring community involvement success. e. Creates articles, advertisements, and announcements for meetings and special events. f. Ensures that public relations activities are effective and support marketing objectives. g. Manage, support and grow the Credit Union financial literacy programs.
2. Assumes responsibility for ensuring that professional business relations exist with members, vendors, trade professionals, and the general public. a. Builds and maintains professional relationships with business editors, media contacts, and trade professionals. Represents the Credit Union at conventions and business fairs, and actively sells products and services.
b. Assists, serves and informs branches and related departments as required. Answers questions and resolves problems. c. Supports and assists Marketing personnel.
d. Keeps management informed of area activities and of any significant concerns. 4. Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned. a. Completes special projects as assigned. b. Stays current with financial marketing and public relations trends.
Required Knowledge : Basic knowledge of Credit Union operations. Understanding of public relations, business development and media processes. EXPERIENCE: T hree years of marketing and/or sales experience preferred.
Skills/Abilities: Excellent oral and written communication skills. Well organized. Attentive to detail. Strong project management abilities. Able to use related computer applications. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION Talking: Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly. Average Hearing: Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information. Repetitive Motion: Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Average Visual Abilities: Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products, or operate machinery. Physical Strength: Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Exerts up to 10 lbs of force occasionally. (Almost all office jobs.) WORKING CONDITIONS None: No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions (such as in a typical office). MENTAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION Reasoning Ability: Ability to deal with a variety of variables under only limited standardization. Able to interpret various instructions. Mathematics Ability: Ability to perform very basic math skills including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing two digit numbers; to perform the four basic arithmetic operations with money; to perform operations with units such as inch, foot, and yard; ounce and pound (or their metric counterparts). Language Ability: Ability to read a variety of books, magazines, instruction manuals, atlases, and encyclopedias. Ability to prepare memos, reports, and essays using proper punctuation, spelling and grammar. Ability to communicate distinctly with appropriate pauses and emphasis; correct pronunciation (or sign equivalent) and variation in word order; using present, perfect, and future tenses. - Directs activities for grand openings. Invites media, prepares information sheets, orders signs and flowers, makes arrangements for photography and refreshments, and identifies giveaways and door prizes.
