Production Supervisor (Machine Shop Performance Leader) – 2nd Shift Reporting To: Manager, Process Work Schedule: Onsite – Torrance, CA (9/80 schedule, every other Friday off) Responsibilities Supervise a team of Machinists on the 2nd shift, including hiring, training, development, talent management, and performance improvement. Identify, implement and measure short‑ and long‑term team objectives in line with the company’s strategic plan; motivate and lead team members; coordinate with support groups to accomplish area objectives. Collaborate with the Process Manager to identify lean and other improvement activities that achieve high‑impact results. Execute standard work procedures and established processes to ensure maximum utilization and efficiency of personnel and equipment, achieving optimum productivity at minimal cost while meeting manufacturing schedules and delivery commitments. Hire external talent and evaluate personnel for performance management and talent growth; manage employee relations issues, counsel, discipline, and provide performance feedback; create team goals. Maintain a competent and effective work group by providing technical assistance, instruction, training, development, and motivation. Ensure good housekeeping and safe working conditions, limiting injuries and reducing lost time. Accurately report employee time. Administer personnel policies fairly and consistently, fostering positive employee relations. Contribute to maximum equipment utilization by comparing available workload against department capacity and making effective load‑matching decisions. Skills Recognizable and demonstrated leadership skills, good judgment, excellent organization and communication (verbal, written, interpersonal). Ability to define and prioritize goals such as reducing inventory and shortening lead times. Ability to build and maintain teamwork among departments, suppliers, and customers. Ability to give machinist direction with technical background during a 2nd‑shift environment. Requirements Bachelor’s Degree with 6+ years of experience in a manufacturing shop‑floor environment OR Associate’s degree with 10+ years of experience. Blueprint reading knowledge (GD&T). Strong experience in a machine shop. Supervisory/Team‑lead experience in a manufacturing shop‑floor environment. Preferred Degree (Bachelor’s or Associate’s) in Engineering or Business. Experience supervising CNC machinists. Experience running CNC machines. Gear cutting knowledge. Strong preference for aerospace industry experience. Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement principles. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
