Director, AI Regulatory Engagement

Job DescriptionWhat is the Opportunity?The Director, Regulatory Engagement – Responsible AI is responsible for leading RBC's strategic regulatory engagement initiatives related to artificial intelligence governance, compliance, and risk management. This role bridges RBC's internal AI governance frameworks with external regulatory expectations across multiple jurisdictions (Canada, US, EU, APAC). The Director will develop and execute a proactive regulatory engagement strategy while ensuring alignment with evolving AI regulations, including the EU AI Act and emerging domestic frameworks.What will you do?Regulatory Strategy & EngagementDevelop and execute a comprehensive regulatory engagement strategy for AI governance across all relevant jurisdictionsServe as the primary point of contact for regulatory bodies on AI governance, policy, and compliance mattersMaintain deep monitoring of emerging AI regulations and regulatory expectations; communicate implications to senior leadershipPrepare and present regulatory submissions, self-assessments, and responses to regulatory inquiries related to AI governancePartner with Legal, Risk, and Compliance functions to align messaging and ensure regulatory credibilityCross-Functional CollaborationPartner with business lines, technology, risk management, and second-line functions to operationalize regulatory expectationsAdvise senior leaders and governance committees on regulatory risk, compliance readiness, and strategic optionsFacilitate effective challenge and governance improvements to strengthen regulatory confidenceManage escalation pathways for regulatory matters requiring executive or board-level attentionRegulatory Reporting & CommunicationsDevelop compelling, evidence-based narratives that demonstrate RBC's strong AI governance postureMaintain regulatory calendars and coordinate responses to supervisory requests with appropriate timeliness and qualityBuild and maintain relationships with regulatory contacts across multiple jurisdictionsRisk & Compliance OversightMonitor AI governance maturity, identify compliance gaps, and recommend corrective actionsSupport regulatory exams, inquiries, and audit activities related to AI governanceTrack regulatory findings, action plans, and closure supporting evidence​What will you need to succeed? 7+ years of progressive experience in regulatory affairs, compliance, risk management, or related functions at a regulated financial institution 5+ years of experience in regulatory engagement or policy development rolesDemonstrated experience with banking regulationsExceptional written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate complex technical concepts for regulatory audiencesStrategic thinking with ability to anticipate regulatory trends and position RBC proactivelyStrong stakeholder management and influence skills; ability to work effectively across matrix organizationsDemonstrated ability to build credibility with senior regulators and external stakeholdersProject management and attention to detail in managing complex regulatory submissionsAbility to manage ambiguity and work effectively in a rapidly evolving regulatory environmentWhat's in it for you:Lead AI transformation at one of Canada's largest and most respected financial institutions, with direct visibility to Group Head and Operating Committee level leadership at RBCShape the mandate and culture of a newly formed, high-impact function within RBC's AI GroupA comprehensive Total Rewards Program including bonuses and flexible benefits, competitive compensation, commissions, and stock options where applicableLeaders who support your development through coaching and managing opportunitiesAbility to make a difference and lasting impact from a local-to-global scaleAbout the AI Group:RBC's AI Group is the AI accelerator for RBC, with a focus on driving the shift from early-stage AI projects to scaled, client outcomes that amplify the impact of RBC's people.
