Join us.Mechanical Engineers at Forj Medical apply standard operating procedures and a strong working knowledge of mechanical engineering best practices, standards, and technologies to design, develop, test, and support medical device systems. They collaborate cross-functionally to bring products from concept through development and into production.Mechanical Engineers II are skilled contributors with experience in mechanical design, detailing, prototyping, design for manufacturability, production processes, and testing necessary to support Class II and Class III medical devices. They work under general supervision in a team environment and contribute to projects of moderate complexity, often requiring creativity, sound engineering judgment, and problem-solving skills.Mechanical Engineers II may be assigned substantial responsibilities on major projects and contribute to multiple phases of the product development lifecycle.Job Duties and ResponsibilitiesDesign and evaluate electromechanical medical devices with applications in instrumentation, fluid management, motion control, pneumatics, and power transmissionCollaborate with human factors engineers, industrial designers, usability experts, and external partners to develop innovative, clinically relevant productsDesign plastic, metal, and machined enclosures in compliance with applicable international standards and regulatory certification requirementsResearch, develop, design, and evaluate electromechanical components, assemblies, fixtures, and equipment; assist with supplier selection and evaluationParticipate in design reviews, technical analyses, project definition, and cost estimating activitiesApply statistical techniques to support manufacturability, reliability, and process capability assessmentsUtilize hazard analysis, DFMEA, and other risk management tools to support product safety and regulatory complianceDefine and perform feasibility, evaluation, and verification testingProvide technical guidance to internal and external engineering support personnelInterface with manufacturing and suppliers to define assembly processes and support design for manufacturabilityDesign, build, and validate test and manufacturing fixturesProvide sustaining and consulting engineering support to manufacturingAnalyze, review, and evaluate design alternativesPrepare, review, and maintain design documentation, drawings, and test proceduresAssist with requirements definition, analysis, and allocationSupport test execution and documentation activitiesProvide mentorship and support to less experienced engineers as appropriateDevelop task estimates to support project planning effortsSupport continuous improvement and engineering process initiativesQualifications and RequirementsBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related field (or equivalent experience)Minimum of 3–6 years of experience with a BS degree or 0–3 years with an MS degreeExperience with mechanical device development across design and production phasesAbility to solve medium-complexity mechanical problems efficientlyExperience transitioning designs from concept through productionStrong technical documentation skillsMedical device experience preferred but not requiredWorking Conditions and Requirements:Office environmentManufacturing environmentCompensationThe expected starting salary for this position is $80,000 to $110,000 depending on qualifications.
